Our new coach has a bucket load of games to get through in the lead up to the finals. He couldn't give a shit about our players and game plan, other than how to thrash us.

For those of us that have been TC members for some time, I reckon Blueman is the ideal person to be on the selection committee. It would be a perfect opportunity for him to bring his prediction to fruition by selecting the "young coach" who will lead us to No 17. By the way I don't remember Blueman posting here for some time ....hope he is alright. Then again he is probably living in a cave in the desert somewhere waiting for World War 3 to start.

New coaches normally go on a book tour, we have to figure that into things as well

I reckon Blueman had his dose upped. Another poster lost to sanity...

Listening to Leigh Matthews on the weekend discussing this topic and his view was, why would you outsource the most important position in the club to a bunch of people who won't have to wear the consequences?

He went on to say that surely the people running the club are the one responsible for selecting the right person, otherwise, why are they there?

Made sense to me.

Wouldn't it still ultimately be a board decision, but the panel make a recommendation to the board? The fact that the board make the decision I would have thought meant the board assumes the responsibility (not that that ever happens at Carlton). Is it not similar to a company engaging an external auditor who makes recommendations and its up to the company to accept the recommendations and apply them?

Carlton's coaching selection panel to make recommendations to board:

Steven Trigg
Ken Sheldon
David Campbell
Ange Postecoglou
Chris Judd

I assume the David Campbell is not the Jimmy Barnes' son David Campbell?!

The panel includes:

• Steven Trigg (Chair)
Carlton Football Club CEO

• Ken Sheldon
132 games for Carlton, 53 games for St Kilda, premiership player, 4 years St Kilda senior coach and Chief Operating Officer of Utility Asset Management

• David Campbell
Experienced, professional recruiter with extensive experience in executive searches, selection and assessment. Currently with Egon Zehnder, one of the world's leading recruitment firms

• Ange Postecoglou
Socceroos head coach (2015 AFC Asian Cup champions), previously Brisbane Roar (2 championships, 1 premiership), Melbourne Victory, South Melbourne (1 premiership, 2 championships) and an avid Carlton supporter!

• Chris Judd
145 games for Carlton, 134 games for West Coast, dual Brownlow medallist, premiership player, 5 x Best and Fairest, 6 x All Australian o Gen Y connection, superior knowledge of game plan/style etc

The above group is outstanding. We have captured a blend of perspectives from experienced coaches to a younger perspective fresh from the game. The panel has an 'in football' emphasis, with an 'out of football' perspective – and the expertise we need to make deep, clear assessments of all candidates.
In terms of the 'search', Head of Football Andrew McKay will also work closely with the CEO and the panel to ensure we cover every angle.
In terms of timelines – we're not declaring any particular 'target date', preferring to take the approach that 'it'll take as long as it takes' to get the right person.

That's official NBH?

Outstanding! Shame we couldn't get Dunstall's insight, but that's a pretty good list.

Further to the announcement of the selection panel…

Honestly, most people on here could name the 4-6 names that will be shortlisted.

Given our recent history we may as well put those names in a hat and get Juddy to draw one out while blind folded.

Happy with the list and the intent to actually do this via a proper process with no preconceived ideas of who will get the gig.

Hopefully it pans out this way.

I like the list.

Judd is a handy inclusion because should know what style of coaching will work best with the core of players who are long term players.

Ange's credentials self explanatory. As with Campbell will tap into the psychology of the candidates.

Trigg has to be there, and in effect by doing so is staking himself to this appointment, so fair enough. Sheldon also fair enough. Might have preferred someone with a closer coaching experience, but I guess they feel Judd in some ways will cover that off. Good start.
