When did we last have a good board and how many have we had since ? Does anyone think the next one will be any good ?

The last time we had an "effective" board was when the measure of effectiveness was in the number and size of discreet brown paper bags stuffed with cash they could give to players everyone knew were champions.

Not since then.

BUT changing the identity means its not Carlton when it does.

What Cimmy and Clubby are saying is that the club ceases to exist in its 151st year....
Which is fair enough.... if thats what they are saying.... but i wouldnt be supporting the replacement... id probably move to Hawthorn...

because if youre poorly run.. youll be kicking the can up the track as North Carlton Kangas... and Cimm and Club will by that time be eyeing off StKilda and the Doggies... So it will be the Norh Melbourne ,Western ,South Eastern Carlton Magic

Hang on...you don't know how old I am!
I trained with Hawthorn as A 17 yo, so that ain't that bad.
I never liked the Carlton arrogance of Elliot, and I don't like Hawrhorns these days.
You're not Nostradamus. Neither am I.

I do not believe for a second Carlton will be swallowed up by anyone...unless the AFL is set on a 12 team national competition. Given tv rights is about content, then it's the more the better not the other way round.

We will win a flag in my lifetime.
We will win a flag in the next 10 years.
That was just as easy to say as you said we wouldn't.

Who knows. I have to enjoy the ride and remember it's entertainment and a release valve.
If the club ips in trouble, and there's a call for arms, then I'll be in the trenches from day 1 in 2003 and fight. TBH that was a thrill, and I could see light at the end of the tunnel as I will again if I have to.

u might be 2 years old.. and u might live to see 120 years... but there will be no more joy...

were the sole white runner in the olympic 100 meter sprint final...

there... but not really there
but i still wouldnt merge

but youre not seeing flags at carlton..... happy to be proven wrong...

That would be the difference from being a pessimist and being a cynic. We might not get a flag in our lifetime but to not envisage it (the rest is not up to me), we might as well give up.

Let's merge with an acquisition fund.

We can be the Fukushima Offshore Holdings Blues or the FOHBS. We'll play in or around Queen St. And have free hovercraft rides to Goltz's mums place for after game nibbles.

I'm keen.

The Bigger Picture - Carlton's Future

The following article touches on the bigger issues. What is the future for Carlton FC?

Could it be that "merger" will be the most efffective way of becoming a competitive , financialy strong football club with a membership base to match the bigger most successful clubs.

Keep smiling

GWS thrashing of Carlton the story of football empires' rise and fall

Date: May 17, 2015 - 7:41PM

Rohan Connolly
Senior AFL writer for The Age

There are usually moments in games of football that speak to a bigger picture. But seldom can an entire four quarters have been as dripping with symbolism as took place at Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening.
Carlton's woes are becoming a weekly soap opera, each episode grimmer than the last. The Blues' 78-point pummelling at the hands of Greater Western Sydney, though, was a far weightier tome.
This wasn't just a team in form beating up on an opponent undermanned, out of sorts, and with less talent to draw upon. It's doubtful any game in recent times has better illustrated the shaking up of football's old world order.

Sorry guys if i have broken the rules by posting this full article from the Age.

However, I thought it was a very worthwhile read if it stops us focusing on the short term issues facing CFC (like who coaches, do we trade out etc) and brings us to the long term bigger picture question.
How can the club prosper and be super competitive in the future?

Can Carlton Football club be competitive in this national competition give the number of teams in Melbourne and given the demise of the club due to 10 years or more of poor management decisions?

Let's hope it can continue as a single entity, but I for one wonder if in the long term merger may become necessary.

Cheers for now
Adelaideblue

Hmm........ could it be the ........ Melbourne Blues ........or....... Carlton Roos ?

No worries ab

I think if we sink any further the AFL might quietly slip into our offices andstart fixing things up

The AFL needs a strong Carlton brand because it's a fact there's a lot of carlton supporters out there which they wouldn't want to lose.

You can throw numbers around and it doesn't really mean much. 1995 our last flag? I was there, it wasn't that long ago.
And then I think about what happened in 1995. My 3rd son was born.

He's 22 years old now. FMD, where did the years go. He thinks I'm taking the piss when I talk about a successful Carlton.

Forget merging. No one in their right mind would consider merging with us.

i have a couple of sons that I forced to follow the blues. They have grown up as the equivalent of what I regarded St Kilda Supporters to be when i was a kid. Both are kind of lukewarm on footy now after having seen so much failure over the years. They still come to the occasional game but the youngest is more interested in Basketball and EPL. He plays U14 footy and wears his Carlton top to training etc, sometimes watches the games on TV but has nowhere near the passion for the blues that i had growing up. Maybe its a generational thing but I think it has more to do with not wanting to invest too heavily in continual disappointment, why put yourself through it all. He has more passion for the Miami Heat, Real Madrid and Man United than he does for any AFL team despite being an Aussie kid that actually plays AFL (Sth East Juniors).
