Just catching up on this. Well done TC and for those posters highlighted in the paper.

Agree it's a major positive that it's mainstream.

I so desperately want us to become a true power again, on and off field. Maybe, just maybe, this will finally make the club address our shortcomings.

I'm an interstate member which basically means I make an annual donation to the club. Just for the love of it....

For me, I would like the wins to flow nice and early as a starting point.

Carlton's tight finances compelled the club to receive AFL assistance in February, with the Blues having received a five-figure advance from their annual AFL distribution.

While many clubs receive advances on their multimillion-dollar annual dividend – often to make ends meet in the off-season – Carlton's need for a "small" five-figure cash injection was a direct consequence of the club's struggles in membership.

The advance payment from the AFL – common among clubs with tight finances, but rare for the competition's power clubs – comes as the Blues deal with a diminished sponsorship from the Pratt family, whose company Visy has reduced its outlay from $1.5million four years ago to $500,000 this year.

Fantastic. Now get Germinder or Pratt (or better yet, both) off the board and replace them with some candidates with passion and competence.

When I stared posting on TBV back in 2002, my kids were 12 and 9 respectively.

It's 2015 and my kids are 25 and 22 (Jesus where did the time go  ), but there's your lost generation right there.

Whilst I've got my my memories of the halcyon days of the 60's, 70's & 80's all my kids have to show for it is a memory of the 99 Preliminary final and a "It's my club its personal T-Shirt".

If the club doesn't act now, another lost generation will take us to 2030, and that will take us dangerously into Fitzroy territory.

Sadly yes CK...but as I said, just an example ...

BTW Synbad..nice post...but if you need another pill to calm you down, aren't you technically living in the 70s and not 80s?

No probs. I thought there was a 10% discount or something...but maybe that was a few years ago.

Stupi stupid ...a few years back they did a voucher on Nike authentication $10 off...at the Carlton shop...did it one year, maybe two?
Now it's a aAFL CUSTOMISE product...nothing to do with Carlton? Weird

With kids I put a ton of $$ through ...and it's sometimes easier and cheaper to go to Sportsmart
Just a symptom rather than a real beef

Bill, I purchased some merchandise last year and received a 10% discount.

I checked the membership website and it states:

Quote:
Member discounts for official Carlton merchandise at the Carlton Shop

I buy my membership every year for the past 22 years. What do I get for that a seat at all home games. I pay for top membership with priemium reserve seat ("thanks for the letter informing me my seat is too good so you will need to pay extra primum for it in couple years, someone with more money wants your seat that you have paid for the last 20 years")

Do I feel part of the club the simple answer no

I only hear from the club to buy raffle tickets. I'm sick of telling them to flower off

What is the incentive of being a paid member for over 20 year do I get priority grand final seat no you need to pay extra $150 dollars for that privilege.

what benefits are there for me to continue to sign every year. You need to have incentives to be a member for 5 or 10 years. Give these members something for there dedication without paying premium prices.

Don't ask me to recruit members when you treat your current members as just numbers

Fortunate for the club I will be a member for the rest of my life this is the only business that can treat you like crap and you still signup year after year.

I could easly recruit over 10 members without trying hard but I won't try and sell people something I have no faith in.

We were told the fixture would be looked at this season.

I thought I might take the Little Willies to Adelaide during the year to see what the fuss was about with the Adelaide Oval atmosphere etc.

Oh, that's right...Carlton is not going to South Australia this year - so much for thinking of the Carlton fan base there!!

We should ALWAYS play in Adelaide and Perth every season. A lot of people have supported this club and followed their stars from the west into the navy blue.

Unbelievable...

I did find that unusual.

I know the club gets to request certain games but that doesn't mean you get them.

I'd be filthy if I was an Adelaide Blues fan, but is it our fault?

Congrats for the media plugs. And good post Synbad from a few pages back. Definitely think going to the footy has a flow on effect - people go with mates or family.

Mr Trigg's head must be spinning.
Welcome to Ikon Oval.
Club would be cringing at the footy forum quotes making the paper.
And now the 'little' cash advance.
Imagine if we go winless for the first month again...

I think what the club needs to also writer about is the domino affect.
Because people buy their seat often.. And buy in batches according to friends you go to the footy with..
Say I stop going and I have a friend who now will be going to the football alone. They will probably not go.
One of the things about being less inclusive is of one person stops going a swag of people potentially stop going... Wherever it's friends or family.
I know a few people who have stopped signing up.. All for a variety of reasons. There is never one reason..
But often the theme is they have lost interest in the club.. In the experience of football.
For me it's a couple of things. Firstly I don't want to gift the people who have been systematically running the club into the ground any money.. Is fanning the flames.
Secondly, the experience of going to the football is crap compared to what it was.. It's just boring.
Thirdly I feel the club has no connect with its supporter base they merely expect you to sign up. They often use emotional blackmail like "no passengers" " I am Carlton " or this year telling you there's a fine for not joining up early you may lose your seat that you've had after being paid up for years..
People are attached to their seats and neighbours and I don't think they take kindly to those kinds of emotional threats.
The club treats us as consumers.. Buy the product! But not because the product is German made but because you should or have to.
When they did impose a 'late fine' on memberships I knew they were desperate and instead of engaging with supporters who have jumped or fallen off the wagon.. They upped the ante on the people who have remained loyal.
The people running this club don't understand what a club is.. And when they attempt to they treat it like the MCC.
Difference is the MCC is a fantastic product and people buy into it not because of sentiment.. But because they believe in that product.
I also have the MCC choice. Id willingly buy a Carlton and MCC membership if I truly enjoyed the club and the game.. The truth is I don't anymore.
I haven't signed up my fifteen hundred for MCC restricted even though I waited sixteen years .I might still do it.. I can do it anytime before this years finals.. And buy a membership But my club is stubbornly blocking my path back to football.. And the afl isn't helping...
I support a few charities.. I have heaps of interests.
This is not 1980 where the shops closed at noon on Saturday and we had nothing much to do for the weekend.
Back then we just got highlights.. If you wanted to watch a game you had to go.
The world is different today. My club still thinks it's in the eighties and doesn't need to complete for my dollar..
It's been left in the eighties and doesn't know how to climb out.
It's not just membership.. It's everything..

I need another pill to calm me down...

It's all so clear now...we're as dated as Skyhooks...

five figure advance is less than 100k
a guinness book of record number of board members couldnt come up with less than 10k each to tie the club over, is hard to believe....
things arent going well at carlton...no theyre not.

i mean they signed rogers and unsigned him with a payout ....this club has some serious money problems and its not only because i didnt buy my membership

and stop calling me "apathetic"!!!

you see its not that im apathetic... its because youre so..... well.... you're so pathetic!!!

Ditto re Adelaide Oval.

Booked in our interstate games early as a treat...and NZ....Melbourne excluded because we go there regularly. We are heading to Perth, Brisbane and NZ.

Kids love the Blues supporter base in Adelaide and perth...feels like home in some sections of the audience...and you know we like to support the Carlton fans there too.

No game in Adelaiade to see the new Adelaide oval. That's crazy. Really crazy. Who holds the record for an Adelaide AFL game...that's right, Carlton!!!

WE are grateful we have 2 Carlton games in Sydney this year...but shouldnt the Carlton fans in Perth and Adelaide be looked after first?

Really should play every team twice (H&A)...and strike a deal so the MCG is available in the last week of October for the GF.
