well in that case peabody he should raise the issue that they should all go get lost... and they can isten and act again...

that was on the cards anyway......

the groundswell of anger against the club meant they knew it was a massive mistake.. they would have to buy more memberships again

mikkey didnt organise for that... if mikkey has that kind of power id kidanap him and ram more changes

but alas...

Richmond was the new Melbourne and we're the new Richmond, but we have the absolute joy of Richmond still being Richmond :)

it leads to mediocrity, decay, underperformance and submission to the opposition

we will become the putrid mould of sport, the rotting carcass of failure, form which the stench of Babylon will waft into Royal Parade like the mist of Hades....

We are being laughed as the pathetic clowns of the AFL

....and that's what you get when you run a circus

Absolutely agree with the topic of this thread...I also think the next 5 years are looking grimm without making major changes to the Board, President, coaching panel and obviously the list.

According to Terry Wallace (yes he is normally a knob) on SEN yesterday where he was asked to rate the clubs who will compete with GWS and Goldcost in 2018 to 2020. The rating was created by looking at the current A list players in each team and the age that they will be in 2018, he determined that the best age for your A graders to be in 2018 was between 22 and 25. GWS will have 12 to 15 players in that bracket (scary) GWS will be second, third was Port Adelaide. He rated GWS 9/10, Gold Cost 8/10 and I think Port 7/10. KB then asked where did he rate Richmond and Carlton. Richmond was 6/10 and Carlton 3/10. The blues A graders (Judd, Murphy, Gibbs, Thomas, Waite etc) will be either retired or 29/30+ in age.

I don't normally listen to Terry Wallace, but I must admit his analysis this time was spot on. Overall the state of our club today and deplorable recruiting/development/coaching over the last 10 years has resulted in this very depressing outlook for the club.

I hope that I'm wrong, but IMHO we need act now to correct this mess.......

Yep, Terry Wallace really did a good job managing Richmond's list.

Wallace always hated the blues - rarely got a kick when the Hawks (or the doggies) played the blues in his day.

Notice how Wallace never goes hard on the Demons? I wonder if he grew up as a Melbourne fan???

Same thing with Dermie - Hates the bombers with a passion. (he has a level of respect for the blues, mainly beciase he is a Collingwood supporter and grew up with a little bit of pain in grand finals - many against the blues. If you want to get Dermie fired up, mention his Rhys-Jones's Norm Smith medal in the 87 grand final)

On this occasion though, Terry Wallace isn't being Einstein by saying the Blues could be in a bit of trouble going forward.

Agree, but do the analysis yourself and you will quickly realise that we are big trouble and not much to look forward to without major change/direction...

Wow. Some impressively articulate and passionate (as you would expect) contributions and responses to a very valid original post.

I had a moment of clarity after last week's loss. I suddenly understood the saying, "He/she is a victim of their own hubris". I thought I sort of knew what it meant before but now I really, truly understand.

If that saying were phrased as a question, the answer would be 'Carlton'.

Up until 2000 - most successful club in the VFL/AFL. Since then, no need to really work at it. Because we're a successful club, we'll always be great. Because we're a great club, we'll always be successful.

Similar to the experiences of others on this forum, I really had to work hard to drag my kids to the blue side. Then, sitting there at Etihad last week, I actually felt sorry for them. The poor kids were bored. My first full season as a member was 1968. For the next 30 years I can only remember maybe half a dozen boring games wherein the Blues looked predictably "lost". Oh we'll have a few exciting wins this year for sure, but I doubt there'll be a single player on this list who'll play in our next premiership. This makes me distraught personally, but I'm philosophical about the situation for my kids. They have so many more options these days. I suspect I won't be buying them memberships beyond this year. That's ok - more money for cigars and cognac (for me, not the kids). But isn't this a parlous state for CFC?!?

Just as an aside and by way of comparison, I took my daughter to the IAAF athletics competition at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park, last night. Sally Pearson, who really has nothing to prove to anyone, won both her events and beat Australia's fastest woman (Melissa Breen) in the 100m. We watched her warm up for an hour beforehand. As expected, she was meticulous and totally focused but still had time to wave to the kids watching through the fence. Then, when the meet was finished, we were told she would be signing autographs if people wanted to line up at the fence along the front straight. It took her half an hour to get to us by which time at was 7:45pm, and I reckon she would have been there for at least another 45 minutes. She would have been tired and no doubt just wanted to get home. Yet she was just lovely with all the kids - nothing was too much trouble. And she is paid a pittance compared to even a junior AFL player.

When people call our boys 'prima donnas', I'm inclined to agree with them.

Just as an aside if it was one of your kids playing, would you be calling them a "prima donna"............Probably not.......Right?

Somehow I always seem to fall into older people calling out for the "good old days" Those good old days are gone for now, so you either stick fat or cash in your membership.

If we want to do something do so............but if we just want to bitch?...........maybe we're just a little old and tired.

harker i thought sammyw made a great post.

yes theyre primadonnas

why?
because they get paid to not be .. and many are

they represent themselves thats for sure
they represent their familes
their club
their coaches and officials
and they represent hundreds of thousands of people

there is a sense of entitement from us .. and i hate that... but if they are going to represent us in a manner that doesnt befit what most of us expect... an cave(Kane) like sugar in the rain.. well people will firstly give it to them.. and the alternative is they will turn their backs on them.. which is happening.. and then they have nobody to play for .. their wages will be less and till finally theyre no longer needed.
thats the reality of what they do for a living.. as is all those names that get hurled over the offence.
Personally the only time i have gone ape at a player at the footy is Robert Muir after he broke Montgomery's jaw right in front of us at the Pratt stand wing.We saw the whites of his eyes and the clenched fist 5 meters off ... nobody who was there was in any doubt what Muir was about to do next.. but the brutality of what he executed (pardon the pun) on an unsuspecting Montgomery who was paddling the ball over the boundary lit the fuse of probably the most explosive abuse which suddenly turned into fright as Muir looked like he was gunna jump the fence. This was only rivallled by the Milburn /Silvagni incident.
Either way.. footy is boring these days... and these flowers we have in charge arent doing anything to help.
The players play like theyre going through the motions.. whether they are or not is another matter.. Players used to spit teeth on the oval.. and now they refuse to chase back or tackle.
there is something wrong with the game.. but more so with our club. There just seems to be a lack of pride and spirit about the place.

Synbad........we are now 1 part of 18 in an even competition yet we "Diehard Supporters" feel some sort of heightened entitlement. Maybe we're the ones tugging a little too hard.

We got dealt our dues in the early 2000's and have spent the best part of 10 years trying to put the pieces back together....Could have/should have we done better since? Absolutely so but we didn't.

Doc Sherrin has at least put an idea forward and I like that sort of provocativeness put forward but at the end of the day we either put out or shut up. Bitching gets you? Nowhere is my bet.

Not saying he is wrong. Simply that I would take his ratings with a grain of salt. Doesn't take a genius to know we are seriously lacking youth.

It's true we are now 1 of 18

It's true we are not what we were

It's going to be a long road back to the top.

As a positive with the poor state of our list and the predicted lack if success that most of us project in the next few years will force change on and off the field as they will not even be able sell a half assed hopeful message.

As much as I enjoyed the Richmond finals win, that enabled the current powers that be to keep the status quo a bit longer.

oh and harks???

i forgot to answer part b of your questions.

what would synbad do if he was at the helm

ok here goes

i would do something radical
something this board (bored) would never dream of doing.....

id have an independent review of this footy club from top to bottom.. checking our practices and structures at every level

id work in conjunction with the recommendations.. and an independent boaard appointed with the usual practices of business and common sense..
wed work through the issues that have bogged this club down over twenty years... and we would implement what is necessary... then id walk away

sounds hard doesnt it???

well it is because those fckwits wont allow me to get onto the helm of the footy club...
theyre gunna fix this....!!!!..... still!!!

anymore questions harks???
