I think this year will be a bit of a roller coaster ride until the new gameplan has sunk in.

You're struggling with your basic comprehension again.

I'm not celebrating Ratts getting us to 5th because I believe we have a potential top 4 list. Ratts had his flaws and while I think the board made a knee jerk decision, I'm content that they moved him on.
My concern is the same people who bagged Ratts for not taking the next step and getting us into the top 4 are now saying we have an average list.
Which is it?
Do we have an average list? If so, its a bit rich to be bagging Ratten for failing. Or we have a quality list and we should be aiming for top 4. You can't have both.
IMO, its the latter but plenty of people are suddenly making excuses.

Well said as always BV.

Hey guys... A question about Mick not footy related

In the no limits part 2 he is driving along and explaining his music he plays

There is a piece where he states he likes sax and there is a piece playing.

I think it might be a Larry Carlton piece and it has been driving me crazy what it is

Any of you muso heads got any idea?

It's lily was here by candy dulfer. The album is called saxuality.

Maybe both the list and the coach were average? The latter shaped the former.

So an average coach took an average list to within a goal of a preliminary final 18 months ago?
It doesn't add up to me.
If the list is capable of beating another finalist by 100+ points and getting within a kick of a prelim with an average coach, the highest paid coach in the AFL should be able to exceed that easily.
As I said, we should be aiming for top 4.

Sorry, what is this 100+ point win you keep mentioning?

I love your loyalty thinking it was Larry 'Carlton'

(plus I'll always remember his playing of Hill Street Blues)

Thats David Stewart of Eurythmics (him plus Annie Lennox). Candy is Dutch and besides being an extremely good sax player, was incredibly hot (at the time). The song was written for movie soundtack AFAIK

Yes, victories against Essendon* do get sweeter with time.
Sorry, it was a 10 goal + win in a final and I undersold us in the West Coast final, we only lost by 3 points in Perth.
Good news for Mick Malthouse hey?
If an underperforming coach can take this team to within 3 points of a prelim with top players missing, the skies the limit for him?

Problem is that after that 10 goal win about 4 games later it turned into a 5+ goal loss.
Once the players grasp the new game plan we will be a far better team, we won't fall apart when one or two players get shut down and I believe we won't fall apart when we have a few injuries.
Structure will replace statistics.

..and yet, for the 2011 season which has been the most recently lopsided season competition wise we've seen in years, we still couldn't win more than 3 games in a row..

I think we'll need at least 13 wins to make the 8 this year. Probably 14.

And 16 or 17 wins to make top 4.

A LOT would have to go right....

Certainly dwelling on 2011 won't get the job done.

+1

What is really starting to bug me is the way the media are now, at long last commenting on how our season last year was ruined by injuries and that Ratts was very unfortunate. Yet ... when it suited them, they bagged him and pushed so much for Malthouse ... anything to sell a paper. The media SUCKS is so many ways ... and people just believe it.

Ok ... I won't get started on the Herald Sun ... the outright worst newspaper in Australia.

Malthouse has a very good list to work with ... and he will be judged accordingly. I just hope that he is up to it ... we all want to see the navy blue on GF day no matter who is coaching.

They've basically written off our season because we lost the NAB Cup final, but fail to realise that 16 other teams didn't even make the NAB Cup final.

Well it's fair enough, look at the record of the losing teams of the last four years.

2009: Collingwood (top 4, lost in prelim)
2010: St Kilda (lost 2 GFs)
2011: Essendon* (8th, flogged by us in EF)
2012: West Coast (top 4, lost in SF)

At the very least recent history shows making the week 2 of the finals is a fair chance.

..eventually yes, doubtful for next season.. ..we don't have the kpps to make top4 yet..

..unless we have luck with injuries, and others don't.. ..but all things being equal, no.. ..our kpp stocks still aren't up to scratch..

Seems there's a lot of posters who think the game plan will click after half a season.
