Funny how the AFL deems in necessary to add extra penalties in addition to the magistrates decision, which was a good behavior bond, such as AFL games bans.

Andrew Krakour received a four year prison sentence, what was his additional AFL ban?

Heath should cite precedent!

I'm not saying Heath shouldn't cop a whack. The court imposed a 2 year good behaviour bond, community service, and a fine (?).
Carlton will fine him 5 Large, and suspend him. I think that's sufficient.

Let me ask those baying for blood, who among you has gone through life without ever punching another person ?

Can't see anybody baying for blood, just people suggesting what you yourself think is sufficient.

As for your question, my hand is raised (not in anger).

Nonsense.
When did Juddy last walk into a pub and belt someone......or Carrots?
It has nothing to do with players socialising, its about people having self control and social responsibility. Scotland is a fool and a repeat offender.

Also your point about it having nothing to do with the AFL is interesting. It was Scotlands defence team that introduced a probable AFL penalty into the equation.
He received a lighter penalty because apparently Carlton were going to give him several weeks.

Repeat offender? Really? Wow, lets trade him to Brisbane.

Scotlands defence team introduced a AFL penalty, because the AFL would of had to get their little fingers on it. Everyone else involved in the brawl got a $600 fine. Such a serious offense when you can get fined $7000 for running on the MCG, $6000 for not leaving a bar when asked to for being intoxicated etc. I pay more then what the other people involved got fine in my membership.

Give him 2 weeks in NAB cup, should be the end of it. Other suspensions run in NAB cup now. Should be it. End of Story.

This. He got off because he's an AFL player. Everyone knows it.
Repeat offender.
Perfect opportunity for the club to set an example and signal to the playing group.
Muck up and you get punished, no matter who you are.
We have always been loathe to punish our players properly. NAB suspension???
Culture starts at the top.[/quote]
Club culture? I really don't think any AFL players out there really care about their footy club / AFL when they are intoxicated and a fight breaks out. I'm sure players don't care about fines in Melee's onfield, but they still do it. Perfect example is Dane Swan. Broke his own team mates rule of no booze going in the finals. Brownlow Medalist, senior player, still doesnt follow rules.

This club culture talk is BS. Sydney and Geelong have a culture we want? Yeah?
Sydney - They are in a city where no one would recognize a AFL player and cause issues if they saw them out and media doesn't care about them
Geelong - Who was the guy caught with drugs? Stokes. Who was that guy wth a alcohol problem? Johnson.

You can't make an example out of someone and think no one else will do that in the team, because we gave someone else extra weeks. It does have a positive effect on the person punished if it is the same season, but doesn't mean anything to the rest of the playing group. End result, it just hurts the team and members. No players will be thinking Scotland got x weeks for blah when they are intoxicated, so l better not help out my mate or brother in a fight. I would be pretty pissed off as a member if we gave extra weeks, which resulted in Carlton missing out on a top 4 spot or top 8 spot.

iirc, Lance Franklin was punched at a bar a few years ago... instead of retaliating, he walked out with his gf and told the club of what just occurred. Is he a wuss or an AFL footballer aware of his public stature?

Heath walks up to a guy and king hits him because he may have said something mean to or about his brother. In the process he tarnished himself but more importantly to me, the brand that is the Carlton football club, again. For that reason alone, the club must come down on him hard... not to mention the 'culture' message they'll be sending out to the playing group.

I fear the only wuss in this whole episode will be the CFC

Magistrates Court
CFC = Piranha Task Force
AFL = Sentencing Advisory Board.

I agree with Brad Hardie

Instead of simpy fining and suspending Scotland the club and AFL should use the incident as an opportunity to promote an anti-violence message in schools and the community by getting him (and other players who have similar transgressions) out there to talk about it.

I think both should happen.

Let's use the MRP system to understand what penalty the AFL may wish to apply here:

Conduct: Self defence, therefore Intentional downgraded to Reckless - 2
Impact: Severe - player rendered unconcious - 4
Contact: Head - 2

Base Points: 8 - Level 5 Offence

Player considerations - Wants to be a fireman - deduct 1, early guilty plea - deduct 1

New grading: Level 3 Offence.

They'll want a 3 week penalty for a non AFL related incident.

So a successful sportsman who goes around belting people, and continues his lucrative profession and has a lovely wife and a good career and money and a degree of fame despite belting people, is the man to lecture kids that they shouldn't go around belting people??

I don't understand how that's meant to work.
