I didn't bother laying into Richmond supporters at my work, when asked why I simply told them 'same shit, different year'.

I love days when you don't even need to lay the boot in, and the poor bastards are just waiting for the other boot to drop (so to speak) and the bagging to begin, and the wait just kills them. Days like that, all you do is smile contentedly time you look their way.

Any comment about when Garlett stopped because he though the ball was out but the umpire didn't blow his whistle? :smoking:

Richmond were competitive, but they really set themselves for this game and still came up well short in the end. I can't see them being much different to last year, still way too much rubbish on the list. Their about 4 years behind us, with no real likelihood of getting to even our current level.

I think my favourite part of the night was when Lethal threw out the question : "So who would you take Hammer or Vickery?"

Hartley (doing his best imitation of an erect circumcised penis) say's "Vickery, better footballer"

Then in the last quarter Lethal made the comparison again, just to twist the knife.

Hartley really said that?

Judd's upper body strength and ability to keep his feet is simply mind boggling. Not to mention his vision.

'average' game last night apparently. My arse.

If it wasn't word for word, it was close.

I saw the replay for the first time last night.

He contacted the Rich player with his lower chest. If he gets suspended for that, even with priors, we can no longer ridicule soccer players for going down after a tackle. We would be a much softer sport.

There is heaps in that incident
Again he showcases what an absolute idiot he is.

On the game.... they stayed with us for 3 and a half quarters and we blew them away after the Lucas and Yarran one two.
Some encouraging signs but that was just a low intensity game... things will be hotting up.
Glad we won it.. as we should have!!!.. cos to not win this game would put in doubt making top 4 even after round 1.
My favourite 3 performers on the day....
1) Hampson
2) Armfield
3) Bower.
Special mentions to Lucas and Tuohy

We need these types to step it up if were a chance this year.

Blah game
1)Waite
2)Russell.

Most influential man on the ground in my opinion... Mathew Kreuzer!!.. gun!!!

Wouldnt make any changes this week

Richmond were disappointing.. no fight.. no defence.. no structure.. no gameplan... You sont expect round 1 to be about skills but you would think players would show desperation and would run both ways.

They have a bunch of one way players through midfield.

When you have a guy like Morris putting his body on the line and Deledio making sure he does the bare minimum .. you just know theyre not heading anywhere again this year....

I normally don't lay the boot in, but for the past two weeks I've been surrounded by Richmond supporters at work going on about how we're gawn, have no backline, can't stop Jack, should've taken Cotchin, one man team etc. I @#$%&! let them know about it all day at every opportunity.

Bondi Beach is truly beautiful, but it has nothing on Carlton playing and winning at the MCG in front of 80000 fans.
Fantastic win and despite the opposition being Richmond, I thought they exerted plenty of pressure and played to win. Sure the pressure will be greater against last years top 8, but you can only deal with what you have in front of you.

As before the game, I think we should have won by more than 10 goals.

Hammer turns 24 this year. 202cms and will continue to have great spring for the next 5 years.
Doesn't matter which team he plays against, if he can keep taking marks, retains this level of confidence and stays fit, he's the one I expect to help us to the next level this year, so great to see him do so well.

Bower was fantastic. Great timing, spoiling and evasion skills. Love the way he takes on the game and anyone in his way.
I wouldn't drop him for Jamo or Duigan next week.

I thought during the game that Russell has lost his conviction and intensity for the ball....that something is wrong between the ears. He seems to have lost his mojo, to make things happen and do something witht the ball like 2010, but he really didn't do anything seriously wrong. Good use of the body as a battering ram, making space for his team mates...he does a lot of good stuff so I don't think he's a lost cause, but he needs to regain the condifence he had in 2010 if he's going to hold a spot in the 22. 2011 is a distant memory, but lets hope for Russell that 2012 doesn't become a repeat of 2011.

Armfield is a must in the 22. It's his pace we need in finals. It's his pace that keeps up with the Rioli and Milne types. It's his tenacity that enables him to stick to a task...dog-bone like. He was fantastic and a real stand out.

The midfield...all of them great. Simmo, Murphy Judd are A graders. Scotland and Robbo go allright too. Curnow is tenacious and desperate to hold his spot in the team. He personifies what it means to the team to have competition for spots in the first 22. Well done Curnow too. Joseph, Ellard and McLean are going to have to wait for a slip up or injury to break into this midfield the way they are playing.

Lucas avearges 2 goals a 1/4 in 2012. Surely a ton beckons. He's a keeper.

Laidler...you are a champion.

Carrots' tagging is top of the class...AFL class that is. I thought he'd go backwards this year, but as long as he has tasks that he sticks to and pulls them off he's so damaging, and tough. Did a great job on the strong Martin and the elusive Cotchin.

The 3 Amigos are hot. Yarran's goal magic.

Kreuzer the "tractor" is unstoppable. Its great when he has a wingman running beside him, because you just know Kruezer will get it to him. Pity TBird's handball back to him didn't come off. If TBird kicked straight he'd have 4. Not only that, he did a great job in defence when he went back there. The real swingman.

Jamo and Duigs return.....
Walker will return.....
Warnock will return.....

That is 4 changes in the coming weeks...but who makes way for them?

Waite will have a week's holiday (and great to see him out there, and look forward to his immediate return after that), Russell's position is precarious unless Ratts sees the need to nurse him to his 2010 standards. Some have to make way.

Pressure on positions is what it takes for us to have a successful 2012. Bring it on. I think we have the recipe just right.

I still wonder why we recruited this dud - as it went against our normal policy of recruitment at the time that was recruiting players that have acually played well against us.

Brad Pearce never had it so good as he had it in the 1995 Grand Final.

Those two games out at Waverley in 1994 the only thing that comes to mind. One season wonder.
