I don't think many of us believe him to be playing like a superstar. but the basics he should have covered!
that's the frustrating thing with him.
he has no idea on the fundamentals of his position.

maybe get Bruce Doull back to the club and through a mind reader pass some pearls of wisdom to him.

anyway I thought we had an academy and Gavin Brown.

no excuse for him in his second year to have no clue in his craft!

It just your opinion that he has no clue about his craft.

You didn't even know he played footy as a backman

Interesting thing a about opinion is "You dont need to know anything to have one"

baz baz youre making a habit of this..... last time you picked me up on "how embrassment" now you got me on not knowing watto was a defender.

look .... what was the watson highlight you picked out from that game that proved to you has a clue how to play the game as a chb?

First 5 mins of the Port game. Ran back spoiling Butcher. Marks in defensive back pocket and an angled clearing kick. Boy is developing a good understanding of playing back.

On picking you up, its easy. Just know your stuff first and it wont happen

Geez that frustrates me when i hear this. It`s the coaches job to sense when the players are flat and do something about it.
So we`re not switched on when we train either?
Going by this they took the games seriously enough. That effort on Sunday would have cost memberships.

Maybe he was just doing a "Thornton" with him right now.

He may not have looked great when on camera, but he was doing a lot of scrambling to cover for team mates, then doubling up to provide an outlet in transition. One of the few.

They're the "little" things us casual observers don't take into account when measuring a player.
I didn't think he was too bad at all from what I saw, but some just enjoying bringing the knives out at every opportunity.
Didn't think Russell was bad either, considering his role.

Sales are up on last week, but you're probably right in that it would have put the odd person off. Plenty of time to win them back though. ;)

If either of those teams we put on the park are representing us when 4pts are up for grabs, we have bigger problems than the result and player performances in a gimmick game.

If we were taking it as seriously as most, Murph would have played both games to give us some bite in the middle with Judd and Robbo out and a kid like McCarthy may not have played at all.

My point was more about what someone was expecting to see from McCarthy.

The word I used was 'disappointed', not 'expected'. I shouldn't have to justify a personal feeling I had to someone who feels a need to be combative. If I have no right to feel disappointed, then maybe I should have been delighted, excited, pleased or satisfied, instead, as these are antonyms for disappointed. But, you know, as I don't think too many supporters would have been delighted, excited, pleased or satisfied with McCarthy's showing, I probably wasn't alone in being disappointed. Let's be clear, I am not suggesting that he should have had an impact on the game with the little game time he had, or that will never be a player. I was just disappointed with the little I saw, that's all.

You have every right to feel disappointed if thats how it is. I'm asking why you feel disappointed. You must have had some expectations or been hoping to see something from him though to feel disappointed.

Anyyhow,i thought Mitch Carter was the pick of the young'uns. At one stage he had a purple patch where he seemed to have the ball on a string. What i liked about Carter was that he seemed to lift his eyes watching for a long target.Very good awareness.............and i agree Dale showed something.
Oh ! just a caution. If you guys reckon its just gonna happen.........natural progression and all that, then you are dreaming. We are seen as a side on the up,and the opposition are gonna target us far more than before. We are in for a very tough year.We must develop a ferocious take no prisoners approach.I can see this year as the toughest we will have experienced for a long time. Its gonna be a kill or be killed year folks.Mark my words.

Maybe the coach wanted them to be reminded of what happens when are not switched on. Better the lesson comes in a practice match round robin, first hit out of the year in a meaningless 20 mins. Good for the youngsters in the team to experience it first hand.
Maybe that got flogged on the track all week and have their fitness geared towards peaking at a specific time that isnt now.

I don't think last sunday will cost us any memberships at all.

I agree 100%. I posted a very similar thing in the "How close are we really to our next flag" thread a couple of weeks ago and I think a few posters didn't get it.

The posters may not have but the coach has, rest assured.
It was a tough pre-season and the boys have the bruises and injuries to show for it.
Lot's of work has been done on the tackling and hurting the opponent.
We'll have run in our legs no doubt, but we won't be bullied about quite as easily again, all being well.

We'll see.

Very astute Mick. Our toughness will be an interesting point for the players to work on and prove.

Toughness in mind.

The game against StKilda last year they won... we backed off the pedal so we dont get injuries in finals.
We acted like we didnt care!
There is no room for not smashing StKilda... after everything they have done to us over the ast decade... we had to make that game a stomping!!!...
We had to show StKilda and the comp that the stars are realligning ... that the competition must take notice !!!
Manchester United and the 'old' Carlton football cllub won games before they even started the game.

Ruthless approach and uncompromising footy and mindset will win flags.
Not its raining we cant play....
.... or its hot... we cant play.....
.. or someone is injured whinge whinge whinge...
or we shuld have won that game...Kouta about the Geelong game last year

When the heat is turned up... (West Coast in the finals... Shit club.... previous seasons wooden spooners and beat us twice last year)... we wen to water and allowed them 7 or 8 unanswered goals...

You can bet everyone will be trying to be a West coast this year and rise up the ladder.
You can bet StKilda will be more confident against us cos they won the last one.. instead of losing their last 3 straight..
... and you can bet we will be a marked team and be hunted this season...

Supporters should give this club no excuses...
There is a job to be done!!!.. win a flag or give an absolute effort dying to achieve this..

No more .. "too young"
no more... excuses....
no more baby steps...!!!
Were going to be overtaken by thinking improvement in small increments..
Or the absolute ludicrous plan of
a) make finals
b) win home final
c)win a final
d)make top 4
e) win won game in a prelim
f)play off in a GF
g) win it

There is never any moment to live in like the present moment...

You can waste time looking back at the past reminiscing.. and you certainly are wasting time waiting for time to pass so you can get to tomorrow.

Hawthorn won their flag cos they took their chances when they could.. not cos they did bay steps.....
