That really hurts, and yes there were negatives with Murph's stab pass from the goal line, Duigan's abuse, Brock's overstep (and just Brock in general), Setanta's weird goal being called a rushed behind and of course Robbie.... BUT.... What about the positives!

1. Jeremy Laidler - best on ground IMO. I had no idea he had that in him. Thought he was good previously, but he was exceptional tonight
2. Duigan's marking - yes he cost us a goal, but he also kicked one by good thinking to get into possie, and he reads the play very very well
3. The work of our mids in the second half without Juddy..
4. Our grit and determination to keep getting back into the contest after being challenged
5. Winning every key stat of the game apart from points for against an unbeaten quality side

We can take a lot of positives out of this, and we should win the next 4 games well and be back cemented behind the Pies and Cats midway through the year...

Go blues!

To my mind last night we actually looked good. First time for a long time for mine as we normally look as though we have a few good minutes mixed in with some quite average play. Things seemed to flow better last night and there was a game plan that was being executed with some flair and determination. Far better to peak in September than be in top form right now and lose it. Maybe Judd should be rested for next week?

Hampson is not AFL standard.
I much prefer Setanta.

oh and I never want to see Robbo as the sub again! He looked like even more of a cat on crack than usual last night when he came on. i thought when he'd get the ball he'd run out of the stadium with it like Forrest Gump! Every time they showed him on the bench in his green jacket he was twitching away!!

Please, put him on the ground at the start of the game from now on!!!

simply put, i think the latest article on the carltonfc.com.au website sums up the game spot on

"effort there, polish needed"

dont think there is anything mroe to be said, other than that.

couldnt be happier with our performace, and the beauty is, i still think we have miles of improvment to go, we are far from playing our best football!!

our defence has improved out of site, and it has all of 8 games experience playing together!! The move of Yarren (though he was quiet last night) the recruit of Laidler, Duigan have been outstanding recruits. throw in Bower/Watson (when he has matured) and they have 30-50 games experience playing together, they are going to be a quality defence. Yarren, Russell, Daigen, Laidler, Bower, Jamo starting to form a very solid defensive unit.

our forward line has improved out of site in my opinion. many will argue you, but you put a fit Houlihan and a fit Kreuzer into that forward line and it takes on Epic proportions. Kreuzer, Waite, Walker, Houlihan, Betts, Garlett .... that is something to behold. We are ham strung by the fact we dont have that second tall, but a fit Kreuzer/Henderson, could just be the tonic to make us a serious top 4 side!!

Our midfield, is already epic and only going to get better. Murphy has taken the next step, Curnow has been a revelation, continued improvement in the abudance of midfield options and we are starting to gather some serious depth. Whilst i talk about Kreuzer upforward the best option is for him to be rucking with Warnock. If henderson can hold down CHF, allowing Kreuzer/Warnock to dominate the ruck, well ...

are we there yet. not in my opinion. we are still a fair bit of our best football, but the improvement i have seen every year under ratten, isnt showing any signs of slowing down at the moment. if anything i think the includsion of out assitanct coaches has only increased our pasce of improvement.

I think that was our best game of the year funnily enough.

It may have to do with it being the first one I've managed to get to rather than watching it on tv but for the first time I can say that I now have an investment in Ratten continuing on after this year. Not that I wanted him gone - just that I was happy to sign someone else if it wasn't happening for the team. Clearly the coaching additions have helped. I really like what we're doing whilst I could see the progress over the last couple of seasons this year 1 + 1 + 1 is suddenly equalling 5 instead of 3.

As for the bombing it long to the forwards - that's fine but don't land it 0-5 metres out! Put it somewhere between 10 - 15 metres out and Jeff and Eddie will have a chance. At the moment too many are just getting rushed through without us having a chance to convert.

Other than that I came away pretty happy with last night and where we're at. For some reason a game like that's far less heartbreaking live than on the tv. Maybe because the reasons things are happening are more obvious when you can see the whole field or maybe because I didn't have to put up with the inane crap from the commentators.

Oh - and we'll blow that mob away on the G.

To all those flowers who ripped into Warnock: He was brought to hospital last night and is still there. Heavy hit to the head in the marking contest which resulted in him missing. So get off his back.

Was it just me or were the channel 7 camera angles so F**** annoying last night?

They can stick their microphones as well.

48,000 people there last night and all you could hear is 3 people chanting Gee-long clap.clap.clap all night long

I dont think anyone is wanting Hampson in for Carlos. Most agree the Hampson as a forward/ruck failed. THe question is could Hampson provide more than what Warnock has in the last month as a first ruck?

Warnock has been poor around the ground the last month. Been very good in the ruck.

Hammer was just ok in the ruck and just as bad in general play.

Hampson wasn't just average, he was a liabilty.
If Warnock can't play and Kreuzer isnt ready he may get a game.
Meaning he has a 2 game window atm.

BTW Curnow told our group he wants to play next week. Given he thought he was good to go after his injury last Monday, I'd take that with a grain of salt.

Hampson forward was a liability. In the ruck he wasnt. Possibly not as effective in hit outs. I will leave that to the coaches. Around the ground i reckon hampson gets to more contests and provides an option. Robbie has not been doing that lately.

Channel 7, along with 10 and Fox are amateurs

You now see less live football than you did 10 years ago.

You wouldn't know ruckmen existed given how many ball ups/throw ins you miss

You wouldn't know kickouts took place given how when they eventually return to the coverage the ball is already on the half back flank.

Really shattered with loss but really proud of our team.
A game that the best team didnt win.
These close games are killing me.
We have shown the football world that we are a good side.
Terrific games by Scotland and Murphy.
Some frustrating umpiring decisions that cost us goals.
Must step us next week against Melbourne.
