Bower took part in Carlton's final training session on Wednesday, as did Simon White, Bret Thornton and Matthew Watson, with any one of those three in line to get the tough job on Riewoldt if Bower's ankle doesn't respond well to the 30-minute hitout at Visy Park.

Luckless onballer Brock McLean did not take part in the session due to an ongoing ankle issue and will play in the VFL at the weekend.

Obviously healthy ankles are only required to play AFL football, not VFL.
(What do they do ... walk on their hands or something?)

I have a gut feeling Thornton will be the sub in this one..

Who know show this is going to turn out, but I would say that if Thornton is the sub, we've locked ourselves in to a rotation of three the whole game, because he's a very one dimensional player.

My feeling on the substitute is that the player needs to be either;

1) versatile (ie forward and back)
2) in a position where another specialist runs themselves ragged before the sub takes over (eg tagger or ruck)
3) fresh legs for the on ball unit

The upshot of all this is that my feeling is that clubs will be intending to use the sub every week.

Thornton would be an insurance policy if he's named sub. Carlton would lose the fresh legs element of the equation by naming him.

All will be revealed I guess!

I think Thornton is a good sub. He has played pretty well in the pre season as a forward but as we know is an experienced defender. If Bower plays Thornton can be insurance for Watson (who is likely even if Bower does pay) or he can be another target up forward if we are breaking down. Either way he will free up another player to be more creative and to be those fresh legs where needed.

Dunno

...and it's 5.19pm...rubbing hands

We are going to win by more than 10 goals unless Judd, Murphy Gibbs waite walker are all missing too...but then again it's onlt Ninethmond.

I'm not cocky...just sure we are a different unit with a different mind set circa 2011

Carlton website says Curnow, Duigan and Laidler will debut. Looks like Watson and Collins have missed out?

If Walker plays on Conca hopefully he uses his experience to really make Conca go into his shell.

haha..

No Shane Tuck is interesting. We have gone with a very small side in the hope that Thornton and White play bigger. I still reckon when Reiwoldt is up the ground Russell will play on him.

..looking at the team sheet, with players listed will be interesting to see how we actually set-up on the night.. ..don't think we'll look the same on the field come the bounce..

Jesus H that's a short line-up. Lucas is very, very lucky. The Tigers will just bang it to Vickery, we'll just bang it to Waite...

Why did they bother naming Henderson as an emergency? Either he plays or he is injured/not ready. Seems odd.
