I think some of it also has to do with personal finances. Not everyone can afford it, which is a fair enough reason for not joining up. Especially as you say, 4th Gen Blue Boy, that there is a massive price difference between the Hawks 11 gamer and our 11 gamer. If I was supporting a family and trying to make ends meet, or even barely making it, the last thing on my mind would be a Carlton membership, no matter how passionate I am.

Carlton are notoriously late in boosting their membership numbers. Most people wait till first game.

I remember us panicking that st kilda had more a few years back and come the start of the season and we jumped them.

Anyone have the same numbers at this time last year ?

We are just behind at the same time in 2009 (Mar 6th 2009 - 30,821)

I wouldnt underestimate the impact of a) shocking pre-season in the press and b) increased costs on membership levels.

I know 3 people who won't sign up because of how poorly Carlton has managed this pre-season. Im sure they'll go to games so the Club will get some money out of them, but Id expect a 'protest vote' for sure in 2010.

Received my card in the mail today.

That's not overly bad that we're behind in comparison to last year. I remember a month back we were a couple of thousand behind where we were in 2009. A couple of hundred isn't as bad as it could be.

In regards to prices going up for memberships, could it be that the club are trying to further cover the costs of the new facilities?

We're basically tracking the same as last year aren't we? Got 258 less this year but 4 days in hand?

Only just behind compared to the same time as last year. Protest votes seem to be a very small minority at this stage.

Maybe the protest voters that didn't want Fev traded have signed up realizing the club was right. Anything close to 40,000 will be good this year considering the bad press. Hopefully we can build on that next year.

I'll be renewing at lunchtime today, spurred on by the chance to win a trip to the GABBA for the Rd 2 game if I renew before 5pm

All sorted as of 2 mins ago.
Renewed 2x kids online, took about 5 mins all up.
Renewed mine over the phone as I needed to change my package, 20 secs on hold then less than 2 mins on the phone to Amy.

Did I just ring at a good time? I was expecting it to be painful after reading this thread.

Organising 3 this weekend if I don't forget again. Carlton hasn't been on the top of my shopping list this summer.

Whatever it was we need to do that repeatedly and smash the all time AFL membership record!
