Melvey, the issue isnt whether me and you enjoy a drink, and what we do when we are on the piss.
The issue is Fevola's antics are beginning to tug at the fabric of what makes a football club successful: his performance at the Brownlow is a microcosm of so much of his on field "its all about me" persona.

It might hurt short term to trade him, but the long term implications of having 22 driven blokes committed to working for team success will be invaluable.

Your response is completely naive regarding how much impact Fev has on our footy side: you say we have no other extroverts- thats probably because #25 swallows up all the oxygen.

Trading him will be a brave call.. but it almost might be the reason we get up the ladder quicker than people think.

Probably the opposite on this site. There would be far more just saying he was just having a night out.

Our own cop it far worse here.

I'm not commenting on this in isolation.

But this year there have been way too many whispers for my liking about what is going on socially with the senior players at the club. I consider a whisper from Josh Kaplan as good as gospel.

I don't think we've adapted to the culture of modern AFL football. Culture wise we're still a VFL-side in the early 1980's. We reckon we can drink harder and party harder than anyone else and that we'll still win a flag. It won't happen. I agree that this incident is just letting off steam at the end of a season, but it all adds up with what we've been hearing during the year (about players other than Fev too). As I say, it isn't an isolated incident. And a problem is that some of the guys in charge actually are from the 1980's... they know no other way.

I just wish the club would deal with it properly rather than sweeping it under the carpet. Suspending two younger players and a senior player for one week isn't dealing with the issue with any real gusto.

Gossip tends to do the rounds. You often find one of the town gossips has much the same info as another's. It's all still gossip.

Final straw for mine.. lets set some !@#$%& standards.

Yea lets set some standards. If we expect CFC players to be A grade citizens i think the members should be too.

Grand Final day - All Carlton Members
*No member can have more then 3 beers during the grand final game.
*No member can be over 0.05
*You can not urinate on the lemon tree, must use toilet (Would be unprofessional)
* Must leave toilet seat down.
* No yelling during the game, as that may disturb neighbours.
* Have to watch the game wearing neat casual/suit. (Must be professional members)
* Need to be home by 9PM.

Any more standards? :)

pay me 500+k/year and I'd satisfy all those requirements easily (and not just for the grand final but for the entire season) - In fact, I'm pretty sure if I was paid 100k, wouldnt have much of an issue satisfying all those requirements either

Correct. It's human nature to talk about other people's lives. It makes certain people feel like they're big and important.

That's correct, we haven't even got started on the gossip. If the gossip was talked about we'd need another 100 pages.

Fev says he was so drunk he can't remember what happened - that would worry me if I was a Carlton supporter and it would worry me more if I was Fev. I have been in that state once or twice a long time ago and I wondered whether, despite not being able to remember what happened, my moral compass still applied to my behaviour. I don't have a good answer to this but it's deeply concerning enough to not put myself in that state.

gos·sip [ góssip ]

noun (plural gos·sips)

Definition:

1. conversation about personal matters: conversation about the personal details of other people's lives, whether rumor or fact, especially when malicious

2. casual conversation: informal conversation or writing about recent and often personal events

3. habitual talker: somebody who habitually discusses the personal details of others' lives

Guilty as charged.

If it affects his performance on the field it bothers me.

If it affects our sponsorship arrangements it bothers me.

If it gets him axed from The Footy Show I say good - that show sucks.

If it makes everyone realise (if they hadn't already) that he's a bit of a dope I couldn't care one way or another. I really don't give a damn what other people think of Fevola or any of our players. Just because Didak's a flower I don't presume that my Collingwood supporting friends are flower. My ego's solid enough to not rise and fall based on the actions of a footballer who's never heard of me. A large percentage of footballers are flower - it's not why I watch them running around chasing a bit of leather. Why should I care what he does when he's not playing?

If Fevola was rude or offensive to anyone that night they're issues for him and the person involved.

Not me.

In all serious, I think Swanny, should go get the tapes of street talk off Channel 9 and any other footage.

Sit him down with the leadership group and directors.

Press Play on the video player and say 'seeing you can't remember, this was you on Brownlow Nite, do you think this is acceptable and what will you do about it?'

If there is anything more embarrassing in life, it would be watching your self as a drunk tool in front of your bosses and fellow players.

That would be 10 times worse then missing a few games of football.

It would have to be done weekly because he has a tendancy to forget.
