Mark my words, Yarran will be as good as if not better than Stevie Johnson

And another thing -my biggest cheers for tomorrow will be for Chris Yarran - to redress the balance of the gratuitous criticisms in here of a young lad miles from home in his first season - hope you go well Chris and weave some of your magic

Second biggest cheer will be for Bryce Gibbs -still dont understand why the is a scintilla of criticism of him -he is performing terrifically at a young age and is going to be a gun

Third will be for Greg Bentley (who I doubt will make it ) but he cops plenty and goes into battle for us - so lets be supportive

Fourth -Hoola - played nearly 200 games for the blues - played since he was 17 in a the gun side and has always been subject to criticism

 I hope he goes well too. Every player who runs out in a Carlton guernsey deserves our support.

Let's hope so. Right here and now Rich is an ELITE kick of the football. At present he would be in the top 5 players in the AFL for spotting and delivering to a target inside forward 50 and this is the area that is the most difficult to deliver to ... name me one player from Carlton that can first spot up and then deliver to a target inside 50 with both short and long kicking, better than what Rich can.

Yarran has alot of work to do.

Houlihan
Judd
Simpson
Fev
[/quote]

Houlihan - class passer with time and space - but long kicks? nope
Judd - obviously one of the best players in recent decades and a very good pass, but not spectacular in this facet.
Simpson - :donk: you CANNOT be serious! Have you ever seen Rich or Simpson? Try justifying this...
Fev - oh come on now, you're really reaching - Fev's a talented kick but how many times a game does Fev kick inside 50?

Rich may be a great kick (although people are getting carried away in this thread), but i don't think he is that special a player as an inside mid. He also isn't blessed with pace ... so if you can get the ball to him he has big hurt factor, but i suspect he will be tagged out of games pretty easily in coming years.

He struggled with a tag in the u18's. He struggled with a tag in the WAFL ... and although he has come into AFL very strongly indeed, i think he will get found out. When Rich is getting tagged out of games in years to come, Yarran will have finally had some preseasons under his belt and should be firing.

For the record i had a love/hate realtionship with Rich last year ... and for the most part i just thought he was a slolwish, lazy footballer with a great kick. Yarran on the other hand did some delicious stuff at WAFL level. If you were going on exposed form in the WAFL last year then Yarran >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Rich. I would still think that over their careers it will turn out that way.

Johnson is easily the most talented long kick in our team. I think I said in a post a while ago that if Johnson can be used a bit closer to goal he'd be able to be our answer (not quite as good, but still valuable) to Daniel Rich in terms of long kicks.

I don't know whether everyone realizes the value of the well placed 55-60m kick from centre and forward of centre - it's not the extra 10-15m of territory, it totally disarms the way teams are organized to defend. It is, simply, a match-winning ability.

If this was our year to challenge, then I think the concern about Rich vs Yarren would be justified.

But realistically our 'window' opens in a year or two and should run for a good 5 years, so I don't think it matters who the more valuable player is now, it's how they end up in a couple of years that's important.

Yazz didn't get a lot of the footy today but boy he oozes class when he gets it.
Can't wait to see him being a regular in the side next year.

When he kicked that goal my neighbours heard the cracking sound that was my fist breaking Mach 1 as I pumped it in the air... :smoking:

That's the speed and desire I wantto see from Yazz.

The Thalidomide kid would have fumbled the ball with his tiny hands and been tackled ;)

I was more impressed by that fingertip steal on the HFF flank than the above but both were pretty awesome plays by the kid.. The kick into the forward 50 that led to Fishers free and goal was pinpoint.
Love how much defensive pressure he put on as well with plenty of chasing and tackling. If he plays like that every game he'll play more often than not for the rest of the year.
