i hear you ... but at times we have the ball, nobody moves or runs or spreads into space. 50/50 balls we stand and watch, over lowering the head.

positive football is play on quickly, run and bounce, run and spread. we take the pace out of the game as soon as we get it. and defensively we just ball watch. no one is switched on. it's the oppositie of how we played port and the crows.

i'm not sure barker could turn this around ... just like mick couldn't .

We have the ball at half back, look up, stream of North players running into our 50 and we're all lined up at half back.

Rubbish!

..tanked the first quarter, made sure to give them a big head start with our tactics.. ..then played a competitive style in the second quarter.. ..obviously got too close, cos back to the tanking tactics to scuttle any chance we had.. ....I think barker is coaching like a man who has the job.. ..or, he's got a good pay packet coming and no ambition to ever be a head coach..

All the other candidates have seen our shitness for themselves and pulled out. Element of that I reckon.

..of course you can.... ..hard to engineer greatness, shitness is dead easy.. ....slow play, chip backwards, try and play possession footy when you Lac the skills and composure for it.. ..we have been competitive playing fast, attacking and risky direct footy.. ..it's the style we stopped playing after winning and honourable losses.. ..in some matches you can see us switch from competitive to tanking footy.. ..tonight's game is a case in point..

I can't believe Barker is still in the running

He has been there through this whole debacle

Definitely a step backwards if he gets the job

Place needs a proper clean out

Very hard to correct for any coach without a midfield.

People want a gameplan like hawthorn etc..
If you don't have the right players.. Forget how you want to play!

..what makes you think outsiders want to come to us..?.. ..why would any coach commit coaching suicide?, unless they had the inside running.. ..we won't ever get a clean out..

This was an issue in the Ratten days also. The players would run forward but not as hard as running back.

Lets look at Barkers record.
First game 48 hours after Mick was sacked, a 10 goal loss to Sydney. Not much change expected.
Next game, loss to Adelaide Crows. Despite losing Judd early in the game, Carlton hit the lead in the last quarter and went down eventually by 9 points.
Next game, Carlton out tackle, outrun and outplay Port to win by 4 points.
Next game with Gibbs out suspended, Carlton easily account for Gold Coast.
Next game, an 11 point loss to top 8 side Western Bulldogs
Next game, after an even first half, top 8 side Richmond go on to 30 point win despite Carlton recording 74 tackles
Next game, top side Freo dominate the last quarter to obtain a 42 point win.
Next game flogged by Hawthorn.
Last night. Good first half but finals contenders North run away in the second half.

What were people expecting? With Gibbs, Armfield, Thomas, Judd, Graham, Walker, Warnock etc missing large chunks of games, we were competitive with or beat the bottom 8 teams and lost to the top sides.
All this whilst getting game time into our younger players.

..it's the change in style of tactics from when barker took over (first game exempt) to the last month or so.. ....and players aren't stupid, they can see what is happening and morale has dropped again..
