Finally a signing that works for the club. One year deal on reasonable coin. Previous years this would have been a three year deal on a lot more $

One year is perfect.

Yes it is.
It gives both sides the option at the end of next year.
We can delist him if he has another stinker or
He can demand more if he has a breakout year.

Should be more of it.

I still reckon Casboult might be shopped around a bit or included in trading discussions. The deal helps us as him being contracted gives us more bargaining power at the table, and if we don't get a suitable offer we still keep him.

Kinda hard to claim he is a vital part of our team and commands a steep trade price when we essentially sh1t on his wage/contract request and offer him 1 year instead of 3 on 1/2 the annual $$ he asked for. If Levi was being offered bigger money or a longer contract elsewhere (ie there was demand for him outside of our club) do you think his manager would have been telling him to accept our much reduced offer?

I guess we could have offered him a mega deal in the hope that other clubs would see that and assume he must be worth a steep trade price, but it's not a strategy I'd recommend.

Kind of appropriate that Dick and Wood got the arse together

Already 5 down... 6 if rumors that Clem has packed his bags and gone home already are true.

Bet he won't be. Carlton know they need him given our young KP forwards aren't ready yet. Be a disaster if we had to use young Harry as our no.1 key forward. not only that, with Wood not retired, we need him for ruck depth too as we don't have much.

One year and he's a free agent. If he thought he was worth more I'm guessing he's signed the one year so he's free to look at offers next year. Last year he could've got more after a good season, and there was demand outside the club, harder this year as he was down although he was left a task and a half to perform as our only key forward. Club had enough trouble kicking 7 goals at times let alone Levi kicking many. He's a 2nd forward, or 3rd tall forward/ruck, definitely not a no.1 forward. A back up essentially. We need him next year more than he needs us as he's all we have essentially, bar the kids. Year after, not so much needed hopefully and we can move on.

Dillon Viojo-Rainbow, Mark Whiley, Clem Smith, Nick Graham and Andrejs Everitt are the players to watch for.
Smith and Rainbow should be given the flick.
The others will be shopped around before final decisions are made but you could easily make a case for all of them going.
Everitt the one with actual talent.

Dead wood.

I agree those should be shopped around but I doubt we'd get anything for any of them...maybe 3rd rounder for Everitt having been dropped a few times this year.

Didn't play last round, so I'm sure the rumor is probably true... Shame, but I don't think we'll miss him

Unless we manage another package deal with GWS to bring in a group of players, that's probably about it for list changes this year. Unlikely to pick up more than 6-7 new players through draft and trading.

I'd expect most of the rookies to be gone as well.

Clearly our list needs another few years to clear out all the dead wood.

DVR apparently was very good in the last round until injured. Enough to save him? who knows, it depends how far we want to cut.
