I believe Collins had a 3 yr contract when signed, so one more year to go on that

Surely Joseph or Marcus "I have videos of Brett Ratten in uncompromising positions" Davies would get the cut before him? He is no world beater and you could argue if we had the room, all 3 could be cut to make room but he is better than both of them....

Poor list management, Exhibit 654,237: a 3 year contract straight up for a fringe player

We'd be a force to be reckoned with if we got him and RC

It astounds me how some players get chance after chance whilst others are constantly overlooked.

With the injury toll of 2012, surely Collins deserved more of a look in... imo

What has Collins done to be talked up as a world beater?

Davies has had just three years at Carlton, yet Collins( 2006 draft) is talked up like we let Massie go for that dud Eccles. I'd almost have Massie ahead of Grigg if I had to choose one player that we let go.

Davies missed most of last season with injury, yet has shown more than Collins.

It's surprising that some are more forgiving of players like Collins and O'hAilpin than they were towards Houlihan, Walker, Bower, Russell, Kennedy, Lucas and Yarran.

Even Bentick, Wiggins and Fisher were better than Collins.

A player like Collins can be replaced in one draft.

Who said Collins is a world beater?

Collins was good to have about for depth but those 3 guys were more valuable given the roles they actually played. Fisher was a beauty for a while until both injuries caught up and and the game passed him by. As good a contested mark for his size as I had seen but that was his one trick.

Collins will get re-drafted either on the senior list if we don't pick up a delisted FA, or as a rookie if we do, unless someone else takes him first. After all he contracted so we have to.

Imagine if he had photos of him in compromising positions. Would have a 5 year contract then.

Buckley on radio this morning, talking about how Hine and the team had been planning from earlier this year to try and offload a player or two, replace them with someone else who could do the job, while allowing them to trade into the draft at the same time.

This is either a great piece of post-rationalisation after having got really lucky with Dawes and Wellingham/Lynch and Young, or Collingwood list-managed their way into 2 extra top 20 draft picks without compromising their list in the short term. I suspect it was more good planning than luck.

These are the kinds of outcomes I expect from us. Hopefully next season shows us making progress in the 'doing things intelligently and professionally' stakes.

75% planning and 25% luck that it all fell that way for Collingwood.
Extra points for Collingwood for keeping Cloke and still allowing room on their list to trade.
Moving on Dawes and Wellingham for Lynch and Young didn't exactly save them a heap of money, so their list management was very good.

What we had against us this year:
1. Signing players that didn't deserve 2 year contracts. That won't happen again...........it can't happen again.
2. Icke moving off at the least opportune time last year with McKay then having to be guided (steered) to endorse such contracts.
3. Malthouse is somewhat more practical and brutal than Ratten (Personal feeling)

Perhaps a bit of both. Were clearly happy to move Dawes on once the Big Q came on board.
But they wanted to keep Wellingham. Would have been ecstatic with 17 though. Still astounds me West Coast coughed up so much for him. Obviously happy with their kids and the fact they are in contention.
Pity we couldn't have at least somehow upgraded our third round pick - or something - for Russell. Though hard when their pick after ours. Unless we end up using extra pick now that Collins has been cut.

Yep, list 'management'.

Cloke stays and they still improve list - cover lost players and win extra early draft picks.
Cloke comes to us and we lose 2-3 players to fit him in.
