Binns is the only one out of that lot in any sort of decent form. All the others were woeful in the VFL last week.

Absolutely correct. The form of all the others was so bad I cannot see how you could reward them with elevation. Whilst I appreciate Binns was not at his best last week his consistent form has him knocking on the door despite the lack of hurt factor with his possessions. You could argue he is not a like for like replacement for Fantasia (Marchbank is even less so) but in fact given the role Fantasia has been playing since Cotters went out I think you can argue he actually is the most like for like for that role. Durdin and Motlop are small forwards like Fantasia but not the high mileage type that Fantasia has been playing.

Ultimately I just can't abide rewarding any of the others so it's Binns for me. On that basis I don't put him as sub because that wastes his endurance. Maybe it has to be Carroll again, or give Hewett a bit of a breather and run him as sub.

Watching the 2nds last week, Binns got a lot of the ball but as rightly said above he doesn't hurt the opposition. He is very young and will get better over time but I would still like to see some improvement in his poise at the lower level before he makes the big leap to tAFL level.

I also agree that Motlop didn't do much last week, actually he improved in the last quarter when they put him in the middle. The thing with Jesse is that we know he can perform at AFL level and brings an X factor that Binns cannot at the moment. So I would prefer to give Motlop the sub opportunity and he can come into the game to provide a spark if needed. Carroll needs some game time so he should start on the I/C with Hewett, Boyd, Fogarty

Understand the point about Jesse having shown he can produce at AFL level, but has been out a fair while and looked very rusty since return. Did admittedly improve when put into the middle late last week, but still just Ok at best. I think he needs more time in the 2s before he comes back.

goldstein in means that tdk can run off him at will, but may struggle at stoppages due to strength and experience. if they start winning the clearances, we may struggle

i wont be able to watch the game as watching Essendon* makes me physically sick. there is nothing on god's green earth i hate more than that club. one of the times i'm happy i live in england is when those bottom feeding drug cheating arrogant scum beat us

With the weather forecast for Sunday I’m pretty happy we’re going with one ruck

People getting mixed up with the impact of Saad & Gov coming back which happened around same time Pitto went out, not to mention which teams we were playing

when Saad has a good game he’s right up their in our top five players. underrated by some i think. his shut down sprints and closing speed inspire everyone on the park to go harder and be like saad. good users of course too. but now he’s a more complete defender who can be trusted to watch an oppo gun half foward.

i think we'll be up and about for this one. 90k at the G, bad taste in our mouth after losing the last one.

as long as we've got 1 ruck, we'll obliterate them

What's the obsession with one Ruck ? Darcy and Jackson belted the bejeezus out of the one out Max Gawn which spearheaded the Dockers massive win over the Dees . Its a horse for courses for mine . There is definitely a place for Pitto and TDK in the one team . Pies won a Flag with a couple of spud ruckman . It works mate .

lol ... obsession? i just want to win.

2 rucks ... it doesn't work, bcos when we go with 2 rucks, we play with 3 key forwards. that's the key bit that kills us. no defensive pressure or turnover and we couldn't run out games like we do with the extra runner.

the other teams you mention only play with one key forward and then a resting ruck forward. we start every game down a runner, and we don't run out games. that's not a coincidence. every game with pitto and tdk we fell away in the 4th qtr, yeah? our turnovers & defensive pressure were down, right? and most importantly we lost.,

harry, charlie and tdk up forward is too much tall timber, can't lock the ball in, can't cause turnover and attcking, they just all get in each other's way.

if you don't believe me, look at the most vital stat with 2 rucks/ 3 key forwards - wins. and then look at our win/loss record with 1 ruck.

if you just go on win loss from one season you’re ignoring player availability. Fog and Williams in forward half has changed everything.

also. durds was either out of form or out of the team in many of those games. motlop hasn’t been available for quite a while, not that he does the Fog type things so much, but we’ve just lacked the slower pressure-game forwards all year until GC Suns game. Cottrell has been reliable but more your hard running, negating his man at time, forward. Fog negates the entire oppo back 6 or 7. Williams has added some hardness and muscle i reckon.

Williams as a genuine forward been the revelation of the season so far. Jack Martin is a walk up start but then it gets messy, who else to play? H, Charlie, Williams and Martin. Fog, Cottrell, Elijah filling out forward seven. no room for Motlop or Fantasia or Durds?

Cottrell could play wing again, better than Ollie in that role at this stage of their careers. i guess let fitness and form in the twos be the judge of who makes the forward line. Motlop didnt touch much of it from what could see off the VFL stats sheet which is why Durds with one goal gets Fantasia’s role this week.

It won’t be Binns though. My tip is Motlop. Might be out of form but he’s the type of player who can suck in the VFL and can come in and turn it on at AFL level. From memory he came in last year in a similar situation as a replacement for Owies who was a late out and kicked 4 goals in the first half.

he did just that when he had to come in as emergency minutes before the game started, and what, he kicked four goals or something? but he also didn’t touch it and i think he needs to earn it. be character building for him to force his way back in. he’s definitely a talent but we have many talented forwards, and Williams just added to the ranks.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Durdin gets some midfield minutes.

If Sydney beats Geelong, we have a chance to go into the bye in 2nd. Let's see if we've grown to handle the pressure and expectation.
