Wow. When was he injured? Who’s their backup key defender? Harris Andrews won’t have the luxury he usually has without Payne playing the lockdown role

Lester or Gardiner?

Similar defensive set up to us.

He soundly beat Newman earlier in the season and I'm not sure Saad or Docherty would be ideal matchups. Maybe a good reason to bring Boyd in to the side? We don't want to be hearing "Country Roads" by John Denver all night.

Yeah I was thinking the same. Horses for courses. Boyd is probably our best lock down small defender and offers some rebound as well. I thought Cincotta was badly exposed against Pickett too. Easily could have finished with 5 goals. We also have Raynor, Bailey, McCarthy to deal with. Cincotta is probably better suited to Raynor or Bailey than Cameron

Cincotta was cooked half way through the last. He's been mighty good since he came in but we won't get lucky again.

With 2 suspect shoulders on each wing I'm thinking Holland's as sub. Just such a perfect choice. [REDACTED] if I know who we drop because 2 have to come in.

What's the best pub to go to before the game for Baggers? Haven't been to the Gabba for years.

The four weeks after the bye round, we scored 100+ points 3 of the four weeks and 98 points the other.
Since those 4 rounds, 5 out of the next 7 games, we haven’t scored over 80 points, and none over 100.
Simple, JSoS has been missing after the initial 4 rounds preceding the bye. He is a key to our forward line, with not only his defensive pressure but additional height and flexibility.
IMO, if we want to beat Brisbane and Collingwood, we need him along side of Charlie and McKay.
Tough decisions will need to be made this week with players such as Cuningham, Fogarty, Cottrell, Mots and Owies.
We will also need to be mindful of the Acres/Docherty shoulder issues. We need to have midfield depth on the bench.

My side would look like:

Newman Weitering Marchbank
McGovern Kemp Saad
Acres Cripps Docherty
Fogarty/Cottrell Charlie Owies/Motlop
JSoS McKay Martin
Pittonet Hewett Walsh
Cerra Kennedy Cincotta TdK
Sub: Hollands/Cuningham

Tough selections needed.

agreed. it will take our best to be in this game. thinking how we played collingwood during the win streak.

100% agree with this. Our ball movement hasn’t been at its best for a while and we’ve reverted back to long down the line too often. Need to be bold and take more risks. The possession chain that led to the winning goal on Friday was a prime example of how we look when we take the game on.

that's bcos we've gone taller over running payers at selection, i think.

If we take the Collingwood win as our benchmark for best of the season; the only changes to our side compared to Friday night are:
In: Walsh and Kennedy
Out: Martin and Dow.

I don’t think it’s a personnel issue. It’s the game style of finals and the work being put into us by the opposition.

Given the way the Lions love to score and make it an offensive game; an ugly, contested, lower scoring contest might not be the worst.

Let me guess, you think we should leave Harry out……

as bad as harry has been, with their two big defenders we'd need him i think. even tho tdk played his role excellently against Dees.

but the balance of the team isn't right, 2 big rucks and harry, on the fastest track in the comp. we'll get found out, is my feeling.

it's a big ask. maybe even mission impossible. trying to keep that forwardline quiet in the same way we did to pies and dees.

of the 5 losses the lions have had over the years in finals at the gabba - all the teams scored high - broke 100pts.

teams don't seem to have much success strangling the life out of them up there.

i think harry will come in for kennedy and martin in for DC or owies. i think motlop is too good at scoring goals to be left out.

i'd nearly replace hewitt with kennedy too, but tagging lachie neale has become vogue. the only way to stop their forwardline is to limit entry.

Regardless of matchups we will need more from our 'bottom 6' players to have a chance against the Lions. The 8 day break is a real bonus for us.

Owies has to stay in IMO. When he has a poor game he still gives you a goal. If he's average or above it's 2+.

Harry & Martin for Kennedy & Cuningham.

If Boyd had more match fitness I'd consider him also, for the Lions small forwards. But I think it's a bit too late for him.

Agree. I also want Hollands in

I'd love to see Boyd in but hasn't played for too long

Land of the Giants, huh? ;) fair point about SoS but I'd be seriously worried about the lack of run in that side. Reckon I'd have to drop Pitto, as much as he played Gawn to perfection, maybe we can get away with not bullying OMac, whom I rate. Either that or drop a tall defender for Fisher or Hollands (Doc to HB). Or both!

I feel like we'll regret not finding a spot for Kennedy. He doesn't get enough credit for the things he does off the ball, nor for how good he uses the football, in both uncontested and contested situations.

He also has a knack for hitting hard, but fair. He's built for finals footy.

There's also the added bonus of being able to throw him on ball, should the need arise.

With Martin coming back in alongside Motlop, I think Owies should be the one who misses out instead.

Granted, I wouldn't be suggesting that Kennedy start forward ahead of Owies prior to Round 1. But that's the point, it isn't Round 1, it's a Preliminary Final.

Harry didn’t play the Collingwood game. He got injured against Port and didn’t come back until the Gold Coast game

I think. Marchbank or Cincotta out. Prefer Marchbank to go out. And Cunningham out - no brainer there. He shouldnt even get another contract let alone be in a prelim.

McKay, Martin - in. Kennedys hard body is required in a prelim. Hollands stays as sub.

Lot a fluff and bluster about May Lever Rivers and Tomlinson intercepts on friday night
May -10
Lever 9
Rivers -9
Tomlinson -6

34 total

Carlton
Weiters -10
Newman-9
McGovern-9
Marchbank7

35 total

when people start talking about players who should be dropped these things need to be taken into consideration

Brisbane has the most dynamic Forward line in the comp
Carlton has close to the best defence
I wouldn't be dropping or messing with that at this stage of the season
