There's 2 parts to this:

1. Getting the right list together to interview. Need a recruiter (with advice) to do this - make sure the approaches are made in the right way to the right people.
2. Selection - people who have a track record of getting decisions right. FFS, not those who have made decisions so for us in the past.

Nah. You don't need a recruiter. You only need the right committee. It's a small industry. A recruiter won't give you anything the committee can't already give you (except a fee).

Just get the right group and tell them their brief - identify a list of names, reduce it to a short list, organise interviews, make a recommendation.

There you go, I just gave you advice from a recruiter's perspective. Now, give me my $75K fee, please.

Perhaps the next senior coach should be put on an open-ended salary with appropriate clauses for termination, etc. ?

The media make life impossible when a coach/club enters the final year of a contract.

I think the industry should just drive a better conversation in the media, as well as the media numbers thinning a bit; saturated market at present.

Jude Bolton or Dermie would be good.

I dont want Dermie because he thought Mick was good for us.
Cronieism.

I reckon he also tricked us into signing Levi for the term and amount we did. He said if we didn't, there'd be clubs "lining up" for him. We took the bait. LOL.

Surely we can find competent people who understand modern football, without paying (ex)rivals to lead us up the garden path.

Dermie isn't a croney of Malthouse. He has no ties, in fact was coached by Malthouse in one exhibition game. That's as close as they got in a formal sense during their careers. Dermie simply believed (s??) that Mick is/was an excellent coach who would be good for any side. He wouldn't be alone in that view either.

As I said - Dermie is a wanker of the absolute highest order, but that doesn't mean he isn't as knowledgeable as anyone as to how the game is and should be played.

On some things he knows a lot...that is for sure!
However he gets locked in to certain ideas and then is very slow to change on them. Blind Frederick could see the game plan was awful and did not suit our players.Malty had thanked Dermie for his playing in an IR match years ago, which had touched Dermie and brought out loyalty in him toward MM.
Thats how Dermie is. Its nice but he is the wrong type of person for this job.

I've had some fun times with Dermie.
Good guy. May appear cocky, but he is quite calm and cool fella.

However I like your angle, and use of evidence.
Perhaps MM pulled Dermie's heart strings and it shows Dermie can be blinded by his admirers or by those who make references of admiration towards him.

I wouldn't require Dermie on Carlton's coaching selection panel. Lots of reasons.
I would accept good Carlton people like Walls Maclure Silvagni Parkin and outsiders and I wouldn't care if it was referred to as Boys club. Independent thinking football people are always valuable. Being Carltonians too is just cream. They are football people. They know what it takes.

Having some you Assistant coaches on the selection panel would be valuable too, if they're out there. I reckon of all the outsiders I'd consider Dunstall because of his Carlton roots.

Just need a good chairman, and President to preside.
I'd rather quality people, Carlton people, independent, smart, football people along with the best available.

May the best be found by the best available.

The club can really turnaround it's fortunes with a good campaign to find the best coach out there.

The media are the conduit to market.
This Independent group can represent the new, the changed Carlton working with patience to get the best result.

I just wish the Board had left a good legacy other than landing Judd, which may have had a negative impact on the club.

Only thing they can do quick smart whilst selling a good message is the get rid of the friggin debt.

All these millionaires and billionaires and contacts and big business and we have the debt we've carried since 2002.

Kill the debt and pay for the best ISC to help the Renaissance Carlton.

Will it be like a uni assignment where you wait until the very last week before working on it? or are they actually 'searching' now?

I missed that too.

Wouldn't want to get started too early.

Ideally you'd want to kick it off in August with a decision by the end of September.

The sooner we start the search the better. Forward planning for the pre season, strategy to trading and drafting etc.

The new coach can study our players, and work out the most suitable game plan..

Of course our choice can't be made public early due to them potentially being at another club, but they can start planning.
