There probably is a bit of story in there for the Journos.
What does the next 10 years hold for struggling afl clubs ?
We all agree the boom is done. We all agree some clubs struggled even during the boom when there was cash everywhere.
I am pretty sure we all agree that no club is going to get the results the Hawks did with their well time fight back.
We know the AFL are planning ahead and lowering prices.
It is fair to say that sponsorship and membership dollars are going to be hard to come by.
We agree that the gap is getting bigger between the haves and have nots (thanks heavs).
We know that membership at Carlton is stagnate and the club isn't going upward in a hurry.
Reading this board we know people are losing interest, not fussed when we lose and apathetic (thanks Synbad).
So what is going to be the big play that saves clubs? Reading what is coming could clubs get ahead of the pack by making a smart play early or should they wait until they are at their lowest and take whatever is thrown their way?
How are poorer clubs going to match it with the big clubs?
Would make an interesting enough story for one of the papers.
Carlton are not poor. We give away a car every raffle.
But in all seriousness, carlton has debt and making good inroads in to that. But, we are far from poor. We have the most expensive coach in the land and have state of the art facilities, which poor clubs dont have and correct me if l am wrong but we are close to the max cap spend that the club can make in the footy department.
So if your only basis for a merger is to merge a playing list in hope of earlier success, then move along.
