Carlton, in the midst of revamping their recruiting, have received some assistance from the recruiting department of storied American baseball team, the Boston Red Sox.

Carlton's chief executive Steven Trigg, football operations chief Andrew McKay and new list management boss Stephen Silvagni recently held a meeting with Red Sox recruiter John Deeble, largely to learn more about the vast Red Sox database and networks. Deeble, who is coach of the Australian national baseball team, is head scout for the Red Sox in the Pacific rim and a former first base coach of the famed team.

We need players who can pitch a shut out in the bottom of the eighth innings.

but will they address development????

capuano ruck coach this year and next .... contract

we do things half baked

so its just recruiitment thats letting us down is it???

its like when the board were wrapped players were doing extra goal kicking kicking drills last year
do these people get it???

kenny hunter was a dodgy kick.. but when pushed forward to kick a goal he didnt miss.

why??.. because kenny hunter knew he had to kick that goal (those goals) these players need drills in their minds not their kicking.
modern day footballers know how to kick ...

this club is so stupid.... its amazing

Great initiative!

The more we learn from not only other sports but also other professional organisations, the better.
Hopefully we can now incorporate or god forbid even improve some of what the red socks do into our environment. I can't see how this can be seen as a negative.

@#$%&!..

Been working on some WAR research for the past few weeks. That sums it up pretty well.

Works in identifying some areas of expertise, don't think it really works with say ruckman, where the bottom ranking for a ruckman doesn't really translate in the stats.

This is interesting reading.

The company I work for here in London help implement the secret 'Black Box' into the club. We built it, in other words. It's an amazing system and I'm in charge of installing a similar type set-up with a club back in Australia (obviously i can't say who).

However, Southampton didn't just click their fingers and expected results straight away! They had a plan, a goal, and they worked hard torwards it. That's what we need to do better. Not just buy in a Judd or a Malthouse in the hope that they will bring us a premiership.

Structure? It's their recruiting philosophy that needs reviewing. We might not be trading away as many first round picks as we used to but we are still selecting players as if we are itching for a rematch against the last St Kilda side that embarrassed us.

We 'top up' all the bleeding time, even the kids we choose fit that philosophy. We might draft one player every second year simply because we like him but most of them are selected out of desperation or fear of failure. Self sabotage is strong at Carlton.

More than just interesting reading. I liked the integrated approach and common philosophy when recruiting players and staff.

This would be within the context of each team's requirements for a ruckman. The rucking component would be easy enough, but where he goes to and what he does around the ground would be specific to each team (and likely tailored to the ruck's skill set).
