Anyone been to Europe? The world game freaks sing a tune that sounds like the White Stripes - Seven Nation Army. It sounds amazing when a big crowd gets behind it.

Get that tune going and belt out the following:
We, We Are the Navy Blues!
We, We Are the Navy Blues!
We, We Are the Navy Blues!
We, We Are the Navy Blues!
We, We Are the Navy Blues!

It will sound awesome and is catchy and people will go home singing it in their head like it has done to me all these years.

When I started looking at this thread, I was waiting for the obvious song and it hasn't been posted.

Blue Monday by New Order.

Might be showing my age but the crescendo in that song is awesome and would have the crowd in a frenzy.

It's got us in the title and the name has what our opposition will feel on Monday.

(I do like anything by the Pixies though but they don't have a title which incorporates Blue)

I invite you all to listen to the song and tell me I'm wrong or, simply, out of date.

who gets to decide?
what if their taste is as pitiful as Andy D's?
note that there were lots of people who loved 'bat out of hell' in it's original state, and would not get why others loathe it.
I think Kochy fluked a widely loved song, even though some on here hate it..and I guess a few percent at Port do too.
I really don't see why you need a song that mentions any Carlton words..you need a really up lifting, go get em song, that does everything our club song lacks..even though we love it.
should have a great beat..and importantly (I think...) a great voice, or be instrumental.

I lean towards a classic song, already well known, and very hard to dislike...
nothing too obscure like half the ones I've posted, unless they are dead easy to learn and catchy.

no hideous vibratos..which rules out Fergal Sharkey, Joan Baez, and most heavy metal warblers.

No overdone fake aussie folk accents..

no crap cheap production..

I'm thinking along these lines..because it probably appeals to all ages, it has a great beat, and a great singer..and..it speaks to our club....get back up there!!!
it's just an example though, and i bet there are a fair few who don't like the Beatles either, so, really...impossible task.

Awesome. Brilliant song, film, set up and memories.

Havent heard tha in a long while.

Inspirational.....but not in a footy or Carlton way...imo...which 15 second part? Its a 15 second lick anyone could sing along to that we're after...isnt it :? ....now if it was "Push in the Back" instead of "get back" then maybe :sly:

Well said. The fact that we've got 7 pages full of suggestions that are poles apart tells us that. Its the old "Can't please all the people all the time"

For anything like this to really work, it has to have a ground swell of support, and not a "decree". For example, someone pick a song, play it at exactly 15 mins before each game, and then see if it gets going.

As well, many of the examples provided eg US college football, ONLY work because its a totally partisan crowd.

Well over the past 12 years we do feel blue on Mondays more often than not.

Just write some new lyrics to 'Imagine' and be done with it.

We could do the whole candle thing too.

I would prefer this to be something fan driven, spontaneous if possible. I know some people like the Port stuff but it feels awfully artificial to me, like handing out Shane Warne face masks at the cricket. The public sold an idea developed in a marketing meeting. Artificial traditions.

Not sure you could say that about Liverpools pre-match.

Not sure why but I've always had a soft spot for the Fats Domino version of "My Blue Heaven".

Following on from a few comments, if you want a song that is sincere and gets a crowd involved then it would be hard to go past "Throw Your Arms Around Me"

Anyone who has been to a H&C concert will know how involved the crowd gets as soon as the opening bar is played

true, but it is being used on the ABC ads all the time now..
could be too much, and also...can't see how it relates,
except after lots of goals or tackles??

I believe it's a reference to the 'one club' affiliation between the Port Adelaide Magpies in the SANFL and Port Adelaide in the AFL. Also just a general 'us against the world' theme.

As for us, we should just bring back The Blues Brothers and their wacky giant inflatable hands.....

Most people acknowledge that "You'll Never Walk Alone"is the benchmark.

What is that song?

Part of that songs appeal is that it was a hit tune re-released by a local Liverpool band (Jerry and the Pacemakers).

So maybe we need to find a band/performer with a Carlton link and get them to re-release or allow us to adopt one of their hits. Maybe get them to perform it.

At least that way we'd get one up on Port in that I don't think Michael Hutchence will be back to perform Never Tear Us Apart.

Bands/performers with links to Carlton. Yes, there's some shit in there (I took out Tony Barber) but the song doesn't have to be cool, it jut has to fit.

ABBA

TINA ARENA
OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN
CASEY CHAMBERS
Derek Pellicci (rummer from LRB)
Kiss
Lee Kernaghan
The Cat Empire
Kate Cebrano
Frankie J Holden
Ben Harper
Kylie and Danni
Leo Sayer
Ozzy Osbourne...
PINK
Jack Johnson
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard (not sure if they like Carlton, but their song "Footy Footy"has a lot of Carlton references).
