Rnd21 Scott press conference, happy for umpires to call delayed free from umpire 50m away if he thinks he can see it better than officiating umpire 10m away.

So the umpires is only good when it falls Geelongs way

I said in the game day thread that I can't wait to see him act all innocent about whatever shit free kick wins them the game...

I said in the pre game thread that the umpires love the cats. That has bitten me on the arse.
I am not too fussed about the result but for this group to eventually go forward and truly believe, they have to nail the Cats, Hawks or Swans in one of these type games.

Mightn't say it in the official AFL historical records for 2014, but I'm marking this game down in my book as a win, on so many levels.

Some people just aren't satisfied. Of course it's about the 4 points, but we're gaining more out of these losses as a team long-term than the teams who beat us are.

Steel is being forged in the fire. There's a team being built onfield, and between the ears. I can see a strong core group of players being moulded, some astute recruiting to fill the gaps over the next couple of years and we're gonna have the makings of a very, very good football side.

What were the carlton players doing in the last 70 seconds when they gained possession in the back pocket and were 6 points down?

Were we milking the clock or was I seeing things?

Gibbs will certainly get a spot in the All Australian team this year.

what about Daisy Thomas?

you were seeing the right thing, just interpreting the situation wrongly.

geelong sealed up the corridor and had filled up all the space by running hard and shutting down with their zone all the down field options. We were down to a 1-man bench for the whole last qtr and fatigue had claimed any ability we might have had to breakout quickly and beat geelong into space.

Without looking I'm guessing this is the 15th time you've posted this in this thread yeah?

At an educated guess I'd say a combination of not knowing how long was on the clock and being extremely @#$%&! fatigued after playing basically 3 men down most of the game resulted in some hesitancy due to lack of running options because Cats clogged up the road.

Speaking of injuries and fatigue, how's Port and the real Super Duper coach going lately? Haven't seen any recent stats or do you only trot out old ones that suit your agenda?

the fact our 19 man team nearly beat their 22 man team and they are 1st on the ladder and we are 13th tells you everything you need to know cret.

Malthouse is better than you gave him credit for.

another preseason, no altitude training and a healthier team with a few key offseason moves ... and we will be a good team.

Forget about free kicks it wasn't one- not good enough again last night but playing a better brand of footy getting games into younger players -playing a never say die game- not now letting fans down -VERY positive - need to keep momentum up and have a good trade/draft and exchange period to get into 2015 and have a productive season-Docherty Thomas everitt and cripps -if we can do that again over the summer we are going to have a good crack at it next year getting into the 8 - need a good start to next season ie win early games - goes without saying our starts the last 2 seasons were diabolical - need a north style easy draw next year - need the dogs to do the right thing over the next couple of weeks to go ahead of us on the ladder to get a better draft pick - although wouldn't mind beating the drug cheats in the last round
Good to see the club getting games into bell Sheehan menzel graham Docherty - all in the next wave of senior players - hopefully we will try a few more before the season is out
I am now much more buoyant about our chances in 2015 than I was 6 weeks ago - the boys need to work hard to ensure that this is not another false dawn
The real positives about this season is the improvement in rowe (I was completely wrong about him) gibbs (a great season) menzel (coming on nicely) yarran(more consistent) murphy (a better leader) - bell (improving more productive with ball and doesn't get caught with the ball nearly as often) buckley (needs to be injury free) Jamison (consistently getting on the park and performing against top forward) Docherty (an unknown quantity when he camebut coming along nicely at only 20 years of age ) Sheehan(just a good story after 16 games of footy) everitt (a better player at blues than swans and multi-dimensional)

GO BLUES

I was there, up on level 3. Was hit with texts from mates watching on tv asking what on earth we were doing. We had nothing...no space, no run, no targets. You could tell Zac was desperately looking for a way out, but it just wasn't there.

I knew 5 mins into the last we were gone. One rotation, and well and truly spent.

I thought we did very well considering we had no bench. They were spent, Geelong zoned the middle of the ground so all Tuohy could see were Geel Jumpers.. Our guys tried to find space but there was none.

I can safely say that they gave it everything.

Ump boss Hayden Kennedy tells Triple M Allen Christensen got an "unwarranted free kick" to kick the match winner against Carlton.

What's the point in admitting it was a mistake after the fact? They're not going to take it back.

It wasn't my mate Schmidt, It was the inexperienced Hosking overruling the most experienced Rosebury

I guess the cauliflower will learn from that

Would've won despite the crap umpiring had we not have had injury carnage all night. Jamo hobbling with a calf, Yazz shouldn't have played, Menz shoulder, Daisy knee, Ellard leg. We would've held on if we had an extra rotation.

This is where I disagree with most. I never blame umpires, it's a cop out. As for injuries they don't help but I believe the lack of depth and class is what has cost us. Against Freo it was Fyfe, last night Selwood. If those players had been on our side the result would of been the other way.

Can't fault the effort and the game style. It is as good as I have seen from a Carlton team in a long while. We just lack class. That ability to finish, to make the right decision under pressure, to understand what it takes to win. Get a few of those type players and it will be a very different story.

Well said. The lack of class in the bottom half of our side is telling.

Well, in a team with a lack of depth anyway losing Walker, Hendo, Kreuz, Bucks, Dre, Menz, Thomas of course it's going to hurt more than other teams.

saying that Armfield is done.

They are good players and we missed them but I don't see any elite players in that lot. We lack top level elite "leaders". Players who make the right decisions under pressure and know how to win.

Players like Ablett, Fyfe, Selwood, Pendlebury etc. are those players. We also don't have the next level youngsters pushing through. Players like MacCrae, Bontempelli, Crouch, Aish etc.

Cats away strip looked good, Fluro green...how come only three of their players have to wear it?

As for the last 90 seconds....you have to watch it live at the ground....spent and no options...noone could run to a spot without a cats player being right on them.

Free kick...what a joke. Of course it cost us the game...pfft. We were up, free kick paid, that ended being the difference...simple. Doesn't seem to get discussed WHAT the free kick was for....In the back? How? Not soft, not technically correct, not paid sometimes, JUST WRONG
