What it means is I have the best seats in the house courtesy of the matchday thread.

So last night I had half an eye on the scores while watching music videos on YouTube. One of them was Little River Band's Reminiscing from 1980.

It should actually become the theme song for the Carlton Football Club.

Most games I've attended in the last five years feel like a LRB revival group. You look at the Carlton fans and ask when was their heyday, and you think it was about 1980. You look on the field and you think you see a guernsey with some sort of aura and presence, but it doesn't quite have the notches or the Avco sponsor label anymore.

You see they've gone out and recruited that gun John Farnham and put him in charge. But while you know he has a great voice, it just doesn't feel the same as when Glenn Shorrock was behind the mic.

That's what Carlton feels like to me. An organisation wishing it was still 1980. The kids barrack for someone else, the guernsey looks the same but different, and every couple of years there is a new John Farnham coming in with the hope they'll recapture the magic they had with Glenn Shorrock, but the rest of the band sticks to the same old parts they played in 1980.

Until the club as a whole slays the Avco era, we're going to stay the same. A club in 2014 reminiscing for the early 1980's, hoping Malcolm Fraser is PM and that the only competition in the charts is Air Supply.

Molly, your metaphor would work sooo much better for me if you didn't use LRB and Glen Shorrock as the gold standard!

Carlton is merely reaping what it sowed. Kernahan's legacy will take a while yet to pass through the system. And the cargo cult mentality that underpinned him and continues to bedevil the club today needs to be exorcised once and for all if Carlton is to ever regain any semblance of its former glory.

Sam Lane got everything she deserved. Nothing wrong with MM's presser and he had to explain the micros & macros definition to the uneducated reporter.. And her b/s on players on the outer... FMD, perfectly explained back to her and I reckon that the playing group has not been better catered for off-field as well with MM's development of the guys. Pity they can't take into the field for the 4 quarters in each game.
It's the presser reporters that need addressing (only thing that may have been wrong maybe Waite not playing VFL but we'll see).

You're kidding birdtown. Bluegirl is spot on. Micks presser was woeful. Apart from his usual belligerent bluster, he sounded like a confused old man, angry anyone could ask him to explain himself. The amount of supporters who are blindly uncritical of Mick is astonishing. If he either can't or won't articulate anything to supporters then someone needs to remind him about the full responsibilities of a senior coach. If he has as much difficulty explaining the game plan to the players as he does articulating anything to supporters, no wonder we are going so badly. And the whole macro/micro thing is typical mick, finding a few new terms and thinking they make him look smart. And to really make the presser completely ridiculous, he claimed we with luck we would have won the last 6 games.

Micro & macro are not new...that was the year in a nutshell as he replied.
Explained it perfectly & then needed to outline it again to Sam (a very ordinary reporter).
What's the issue here?
Thought he was quite measured throughout.
Soft skins out there.
I won't jump on the bashing when it's not valid.

Synbad, this has to be sarcasm. Thomas has been barely worth a game, judd came in and won three b and f in a row, and still makes us a 5 goal better side every time he goes out there.

Maybe thomas will finish top three in the b and f for the next three years, or maybe he will be a talented player, with bad ankles, who is way overpaid for talent he can no longer reproduce. Either way he'd be lucky at this stage to be allowed to carry judd's bags let alone being favourably compared to him.

i wish people would just go along and watch the ressies play from time to time... and watch it and then imagine thats afl pressure and intensity... and then try and imagine those blokes running around in our firsts v swans etc

instead of watching them getting pantsed by non afl listed players and a non high intensity environment...

i roll my eyes the number of times people talk about graham or holman or johnson (johnson is the best of that lot mind u.. lacks pace though to make it....

its either they havent seen them play... or have seen them play but cant project that into an AFL situation.

which is probably the way our recruiters watch games too...

There would be plenty who'd love to work under Mick. They just have to meet his criteria.

A) offer no dissenting view on anything.
B) not in any way shape or form be a possible senior coaching candidate at Carlton.

Actually swap A and B around, pretty sure that's how Mick ranks things.

MLG will have to step up and force Mick into hiring some people from outside Micks own, incredibly small, cadre of admirers.

well why did they not have trouble working with him under collingwood?
yes som were moved on but youd have to say there was a bit more going on in his boxes for footy thn under ratten...

just alan richardson .. but he started off his journey at collingwood also

you see its about the environment ...

we havent created one.

u can see the depth in coaching and everything else collingwood created
ceos
coaches
assistant coaches
players and recruiting

were miles off the pace and its not mick... its the club
