Pros:
Gibbs and Robbo. I’m really impressed by how much smarter Robbo is playing these days. Credit to him and the coaching panel.
Menzel.
Everett was pretty good.
Good to see guys like Rowe and Casboult and Docherty and Tuohy and others continue to carry real responsibility in the way the team’s set up.

Cons:
We seem to have made an art-form of losing by 2 goals whoever the opposition is.
Out tackled. Intensity was a fair way off what it should have been. We’re simply not good enough to coast against weaker opposition like the better teams. When we finally got on top early in the 2nd quarter, it looked like we fell asleep, assuming the win would come by all itself.
Out ran. How many goals did they kick running into an open forward line? How often were we outnumbered in our own forward line.
Thrashed out of the centre.
Disappointing games from Walker and Hendo. Not sure what the issue is with Hendo at the moment, but he’s really struggling.
Simmo’s gone off the boil in recent weeks. Struggles against the tag.
We really need Thomas playing further up the ground (although his fitness probably doesn’t allow it).

I’m trying to work out if the subtle-tank is now on (which I don’t mind). With late and important withdrawals from the team most weeks. And lots of responsibility being placed upon younger, less experienced players. Playing 3 tall forwards and 3 tall defenders most weeks. Always seem to play one-on-one, leaving our defence exposed, and our forward line crowded, even against the weaker sides. Etc. Just waiting for important players to be booked in for late season surgery with about 4-5 weeks to go.

Or perhaps our list is so thin, and the overall fitness relatively poor, so that it simply looks that way.

This is the incredible point about MM's coaching. Allows a loose man to occupy our forward line but leaves Rowe, Jamison and White one on one.

Only 9000 at the game, but there was a bit of a buzz around the ground and not a bad atmosphere.

When the GWS start their 5 year stretch to win their 18 games a season they will fill the joint and the atmosphere will be giant.

I really liked the stadium.

Agree Bondi, would have to be one of the best stadiums in the comp.

I still can't fathom what the afl have done for gold coast and GWS ... just giving them blue chip prospects on top of blue chip prospects and at the detriment of every other club.

I remember when Jacksonville in the NFL and Minnesota in the NHL became expansion teams. Each team in the league would nominate a handful of players for the expansion draft. The teams would get compensation draft picks, but not handed the keys to the future just like that.

It's a real dampener on the interest to afl for me at least. In 3 years when it's the suns and giants in every GF for half a decade and everyone else playing for 3rd ... I wonder if the AFL'll regret their decision? Throw in the tv deal and dying attendances and wow, just wow.

Robbo was just reeling off GC's midfield.....number 1 draft pick David Swallow their 5th best

Forget who else he had.

Frightening. Certainly more so than Gibbs, Murphy, Ellard and Carazzo.

I love the way the AFL states, and will continue to, that all teams signed off on their concessions.

What other option did they have?

From our 2011 Semi Final loss to West Coast, exactly half of that side played on Saturday.

Of the 11 who didn't, 6 no longer play at AFL level.

On Saturday we had 6 first round draft picks in the side who weren't in that Semi Final.

Docherty, Everitt, McLean, Menzel, Thomas and Gibbs IN.
Davies, Duigan, Joseph, O'hAilpin, Scotland, Thornton OUT.

The talent in outweighs the talent out quite a bit.

Then you have:

Casboult, Curnow, Rowe, White IN.
Betts, Ellard, Garlett, Laidler OUT.

The talent out would appear to outweigh the talent in. Betts and an in form Garlett give us probably 5 extra goals.

Waite for Murphy is a net loss too.

It would appear losing Betts and Garlett's dramatic loss of output is affecting us quite significantly. Menzel can only make up for so much of that.

Pathetic.

Watch this guy jog to the next contest and I tell you I can walk faster.

I've been a fan of Warnock. But I too was disappointed in his intensity and willingness to compete on Sunday. Don't know if he's getting tired, having had to shoulder most of the ruckwork for the year. Perhaps it was exaggerated by the contrast with the manic intensity of Mumford. But he (and some others) didn't look like they wanted to work all that hard this week for the win.

I think we really miss the spark and enthusiasm Eddie and an in-form Jeff used to provide. We were as flat as pancakes on Sunday.

Add in a Judd in decline, Walker at nowhere near 2011 levels, ditto for Waite, and you can see the difference.

I agree. It's been a double hit. MM has done a fantastic job in turning Yarran around. Hope he can do the same with Garlett. Makes a huge difference to our forward line when he's playing well.

Docherty's disposal seems to be deteriorating by the week. There was a particular turnover on Sunday in the second quarter when we were up by a goal and Docherty kicked in-board from the wing but missed a target he should have hit in the middle of the ground. The ball turned over, the Giants kicked it forward and got a goal from the entry (after a throw-in from memory). After that the Giants had all the momentum and kicked four or five in a row. It was a costly mistake,

if you have to stop and think about what your doing your disposal will be off. players dont know what they are doing so they are confused and ball skills go out the window
