Do you still hold this brilliant view?

Yeah... @#$%&! tanking... look where it's got us now
Plus I have no faith in our inept recruiters to get it right

Win...Win...Win

Let's build a winning culture... something we can take into next season and beyond

Thanks for answering for me but I am quite capable of doing so myself.

Yes I do. But I am not advocating tanking. I am advocating seeing if Mitchell, MacArthy, O'Keefe, Laidler, Warnock and co will be on the list next year. We will delist maybe all of them this year and Mitchell and MacArthy have played one game each. Eight days ago, about 95% of TCers were screaming for Watson's head on a plate. Well, guess what? Maybe the kid can play after all. Without giving him a run, we wouldn't know. Where is the value in playing Scotland for the rest of the year? He'll retire in 5 weeks. Put Bootsma or Graham into the HBF and play them there to get used to it. If we lose, so what? They get something out of it. if we win? Even better from a developmental point of view.

NM have lost 5 games so far by less than 4 points. They will finish 11-13 and will get pick 6-8. We may scrape into 8th or 9th and get pick 10-11.

How do you feel about them getting Luke Dunstan if he slips to 6th? Predicted to go top 5 but maybe top 6 maybe not.

How would you feel about us getting him? He won't slip to pick 10. He is exactly the sort of hard at it inside mid with great kicking skills we need. Losing tonight by a point would have hurt but a top 6 pick would come in handy in a couple of months.

We need to build the team for the future. This season is shot to ribbons. Why now try out the kids, finish 14th (now impossible) and get a top 5 draft pick to develop? WCE did it. Collingwood did it. They didn't suffer.

No, we will fight all the way, get to ninth, a position we have ridiculed Richmond for occupying but which all of a sudden looks attractive to some, get pick 10 or 11 instead of pick 5 or 6 and call the last seven weeks a resounding success.

I can't see the value in it. Just like MM and Woosha couldn't a few years back.

Having said all that, I did enjoy the win.

Not advocating tanking, but, um, yeah you kind of are. You have stated that you would prefer to lose, read your post again. Pick 6 or 10, I couldn't give a shit

Based on the other night I can only see us beating the Bulldogs and maybe the Suns (although they will cause us grief), that's it.

According to the ladder predictor this could leave us in 13th spot (14th if we lost to GC).

This is the reality we face, people.

But if the team decides to pull their heads out of their arse and win all the 50/50 games coming up (St Kida, Norf, Richmond, Port) then 9th is still on the cards. I seriously doubt this mob has that level of fortitude in them though.

This is bullshit pessimism.

Erm, no. It's an opinion, in this case written after seeing one of the most gutless performances I've ever seen from a Carlton team. We all have them. You're always welcome to offer a counter-opinion rather than single-sentence snipes.

That said, I'm happy that since writing this the team has proven me wrong twice. Hope they keep doing it, but it'll still be a very difficult task. Re-doing the predictor, I now have us finishing 9th.

Keep it up. Is working.

I already offered my counter opinion.

I don't have to read it again. I wrote the flower thing. I know what I am saying.
Read the last line.

Try kids.
If we finish lower down we get a better pick, which is better for us in the long run.

If that's advocating deliberately losing games, I'll go 'he'.

If you think playing Scotland will help bring on someone like Bootsma for next year when the probability is that Scotland won't be there, be my guest. Scotland is cooked. He's a shadow of his former self and there is no value playing him into form. NONE!

amazing the number of people that bitched about Fisher not getting his 100th game, yet now we're happy to sit Scotland out for the rest of the season???

He still has the smarts to make a difference on the field, oh yeah, I forgot - this season is done, let's blood the kids.

Two wins against bogey teams in the last two weeks would ve given the boys some confidence.
Massive game this week. Have to exercise our demons from last year against GC. They pulled our pants down last year, so its time to show these little upstarts who's boss!
We have to put in a 4 quarter effort. Time for our taggers to earn their keep.
This season isnt done with yet!!

Season is far from done.

Scotland out / Graham in, will make almost no difference to our outcome so it is a mute point. "Bring the kids in", I am not sure what people are saying. Do we drop 6 players and bring in 6 kids?

We are even money to make the 8, and with a little bit of luck we can face the Tigers!

Not really amazing unless you provide some evidence that it's the SAME people that bitched about Fisher now happy for Scotland to go out.

With 6 games left to play we shouldn't even be thinking about what draft picks we end up with, the club's focus needs to be 100% on winning as many games as it can for the remainder of the season.

We aren't gone yet in terms of a place in rhe finals and even if we do finish 9th then so be it, the players need to go out every week knowing that the expectation is to win games and they need to see that they are being given the best possible chance to do that through the best possible team being fielded with a view to what happens this year, the last six games of the year shouldnt be compromised with an eye on next season.

I'd rather we end the season on some kind of positive note so that we can actually look forward to the next season rather than see us slide further down. Finishing 14th this season can in no way be seen as acceptable for us. Pick 6 over Pick 10 is no guarantee of anything in terms of the future, making losses acceptable is guaranteed to negatively impact on our culture.

No, we will fight all the way, get to ninth, a position we have ridiculed Richmond for occupying but which all of a sudden looks attractive to some, get pick 10 or 11 instead of pick 5 or 6 and call the last seven weeks a resounding success.

I can't see the value in it.

I don't post very often, but sometimes people annoy me enough to make me bother.

Thankfully in the supporter circles I speak to face to face and hopefully within the supporters on here, people DO see the value in it. People actually prefer to see a few the club win the maximum possible games per year. People actually DO prefer to put what the MC judge to be the best possible team on the field each week. People actually DO prefer to finish 9th rather than 14th. Let alone the hope of 8th and at least one finals game to get excited about.

That doesn't mean not playing any kids. I'd live to see plenty of them get a run this year strategically where MC believe it increases our chance to win the game, not just for the sake of it.
