To be fair, it was Dunstall and Shaw here were doing most of the barracking. Hudson, not so much.

It was an ugly win, but I'll take it.

This lot will take some big scalps up there this year, but we won't be one of them.

After their Bombers win last week and their thumping of us in NAB final, I would have taken any winning margin.

Lucas continued his steady progress, Cachia and Bell did their share too.

Kreuzer may not be kicking straight but at least he gives our forward line structure and makes it easier for Waite and the amigos. FFS, at least he's starting to take grabs inside 50! Persist with him down there, he's due to click soon. His no nonsense fwd pressure is too often overlooked.

Really looking forward to this team with kids like Graham and Menzel adding to the mix later in the year, the former especially.

We looked gone at the end of the first half and in years past the avalanche would have continued. Credit to Mick for making the necessary adjustments and the players for buckling down.

I get the frustration and I too was frustrated but it is always hard to win on the road and the Lions are not as bad as their record suggest (especially at home).

The good thing about the result is that there is no room for complacency and the boys should be cherry ripe when we come up against the Bombers in two weeks time.

This could have easily been a game that we lost so I think it's important to remember that.

Based on Waites suspension Brown should also be cited, intentional, high contact with the head, low to medium impact.

I was happy with the win. Brisbane had been playing solid football and in previous years when they came back at us we would of lost.

Not playing top shelf football but the signs are there. You could see we were still trying to adhere to our new game plan and it's not yet instinctive. Add Betts, Yarran, Carrazzo to that side and we are so much better.

MM is sorting out our list and developing new structures. It takes time but the signs are good.

The improvement in Lucas, Walker, Curnow, Armfield, Henderson, White, Garlett shows that.

IMO our attitude is first class and we will just keep getting better.

The first things you look for are players with sloppy skills... players who dont follow back... players who dont do the hard things.... players who go missing.

All of the players need to be assessed.. not when were wi nning but when were challenged.. and then they need to be sorted out

and seriously ... i dont care about the commentating.

not only are we soft on the ground but a ssupporters we hate commentating .....

Look we were odds on to win and the Lions made charges that buckled us at the knees... so of course commantators will barack for a boilover against us..

What we neeed to do is start smashing some of these teams.. everyone knows when were challenged we fold.... so they wanna see it!!!

I would too if Collingwood or Hawthorn was susceptible to it over and over and over again...

Missing the key factor in attracting a penalty though, saturation coverage in the media.

Anytime Brisbane took the ball from a stoppage our spread was terrible. Looked like we had no one on the defensive side.

My expectation this year is that we should be a real contender and should be aiming for top 4 so I don't know whether that's clouding my judgement, but our form is difficult to assess at the moment. Malthouse is tinkering week to week and our players are adjusting to playing different roles. That's making it difficult to really play at their best week in week out so at the moment we should be happy to pick up a win.

We're seeing different forward setups throughout the game. Noticed Murphy started forward in the last quarter and White played both ends again.

I'd have preferred to see us playing better football and putting teams away, but plenty of judges are saying our best form is going to come in the second half of the season. I'm prepared to wait it out until then.

You can see Malthouse is pretty restrained when he speaks, its all positive messages, with a couple of points we need to work on. He's also being pretty honest this time around. Its a struggle at the moment for him to come up with positives, other than us winning and a few individuals.

The message behind closed doors will be a lot different, but I think he understands this group need to be babied a little bit and he doesn't want to lose the group this early. They need to work it out themselves or hear it from within the playing group. I wonder who are targets will be in the off-season. Desperately need a Hodge type amongst the playing group and someone from the Geelong structure at the club as well. Ling would be ideal. Hearing it (the need to toughen up) from him rather than Malthouse might come across better.

Didn't really notice them last night and I'm surprised by how upset people here are about it.

Looks loads of improvement needed

Issue 1 turnovers

Issue 2 defensive running

Powerful runners who can execute and dont fold should be what we should be recruiting.
