The injury has little to do with it considering Nathan Wright will only miss 1-2 weeks with what is a minor fracture. Ed's bump is just a big no-no as soon as the head was hit. End of story.

..but it's not.. ..more often than not, the weeks are tied in with the damage caused.. .... ..lookit, every game players get bumped and sometimes head high contact is made, some dont even get reported.. ..Murphy gets bumped and knocked on his arse every game, some hit his head..

..you can make a tackle, which can easily go high and coat hanger someone, no damage, free kick and play on.. ..no report.. ..you can go for a spoiling attempt in the marking contest, punch your opponent square in the head, and it's sometimes not even a free kick.. ..i know that in theory you are correct, but the MRP verdicts contradict there own rules at times, as well as your theory which i can agree with in principle, but the practicality of the games, and tribunal verdicts dont agree with..

..keep in mind, Eddie broke a jaw, got 5 reduced to 3.. ..is it in any way similar to wellingham cleaning up simpson, aside from the broken jaw..??..

..eddie went the bump, that landed high and made damage.. ..wellingham lined up simpson, and smashed him.. ..same suspension.. ..plenty of tribunal rulings come down to damage..

..there's more bumps in a game that have head high contact, that aren't suspended for.. ..than there are hits that get suspended.. ..damage done is very much in the thoughts of the tribunal.. ..unless in a marking contest, where anything goes 'hurt factor' wise [more or less]..

So what you're saying is that Ed should have got 1 or 2 weeks because that's how long Wright will miss? Everything about Ed's bump was wrong...late, not in play, head-high, jumped off the ground. 3 weeks was spot-on.

..it was late yes, but not maliciously late.. ..clumsily late i would say.. ..yes he left the ground, partly due to his short stature.. ..but, if you're going to run at a person and bump them, more often than not your feet will leave the ground as you brace for impact, keeping in mind you're the one in motion.. ..if you stand your ground, you plant your feet for traction.. ..but when running at a person, you leave the ground to give good impact.. ..the 'feet off the ground' arguement is flawed.. ..i agree it has its place, but on a case by case basis and not some golden rule that hangs over all..

..if eddie didnt break the jaw, and wright jumped back up to his feet, do you still think he'd have gotten 3 weeks..?.. ..most likely perhaps 1, or even 'not enough forceful contact' and he's ok to continue.. .... ..it's why so much emphasis is placed upon the club doctor's reports..

..mind you i'm less argueing the technicality of the law with you, and more the evidence of whats goes on regarding reports and tribunal findings.. ..its very inconsistent, but overall damage done equals time off.. ..and the time off is often weighted towards the medical reports..

..however, when i say damage done equals weeks off, i don't mean at a strict rate of week suspension fer work out injured for 'victim'.. .... ..just that if the player is significantly injured [concussion being latest regular example], then the opponent stands a good chance of missing weeks, especially if the head is involved..

granted the head needs to be protected, What annoys me though is that knob KB's insistence that the bump is not dying, FMD teams aren't silly they're not going to risk loosing players and matches just to protect a symbolic relic of the game, they'll adjust in some way most likely by focusing on spoiling and tackling rather than bumping. the bump is dead.

When you've got someone like Jono Brown saying "You can't bump" that's a pretty clear indication that it's dead.

..like anything, expert technique and consistent practice will hone the skill.. ..the bump is an aggressive instinctive thing we learn as kids.. ..and it's probably the least refined aspect of the game thru the ranks.. ..just need to learn that you drop your knees just as you brace for impact to lower your own center of gravity.. ..am sure some wrestling and judo and these kinds of martial arts could be used to help the bump stay legit..

The bump dies every year. It'll be back.

Yes I know, 3 weeks (net) is still lucky.

I thought Wellingham last year deserved 6-8 before good behaviour.

Jolly cleared of his report due to insufficient force, makes you wonder how Waite got suspended with such minimal contact.

A meathead dinosaur who's played more games than everyone who posts on this forum put together. Reckon he'd have a better feel for what goes on out on the ground than you or I.
