Kahuna agree with what you say and maybe at 90 years of age I was naive to think that Mick may give us an almost instant return on our earlier investment - but after the first 2 games Im more convinced than ever that our group is bar Melbourne the most mentally fragile one in the AFL and Micks greatest challenge is to rectify that -I reckon it is easier to program rather than de-program so if he is going to stamp this team with his ethos/a killer instinct a hard mental edge its better within reason to do it with young players/newbies who may embrace it than some of the others that have let us down in the past
Wish we didnt have to but the reality is that we have to -and whilst a broken record about it the FACT that we couldnt improve our list over the last summer was criminal when arguably all of geelong collingwood hawthorn and the swans

It has taken me 1000 posts to try and say that.

Not to mention the 1000 replies by a certain someone :donk:

In all seriousness, I like reading the banter

Yeah it was fun there for a bit. That certain someone and I have met a few times and got along fine so don't read too much into it.

We just have to engage the Cats in a tough contest and take them head on. We are no good until we can do that.
Lets armwrestle the best at it and see how we go. See how far we are off or prove we can match it with the best.

We need to become a horrible team to play against.

papa don't preach :sly:

Lucas was one of our better players outside of his tackling.

Have had my doubts about Lucas and still do - but he was far from our worst against Collingwood & deservis his spot this week.

I can't believe our recruiting has been so bad, but our player development is woeful.

Is Stephen Wells from Geelong such a recruiting genius or are Geelong (and Collingwood for that matter) able to develop pick 30+ selections better than everyone else.

They pick better players. And Collingwood have just recruited the best in the business (in my opinion) in Matt Rendell.

Wells is best in the business.
He misses on the odd one .. but he usually is pretty good.

But i cant imagine players coming through the Geelong system since they got their world in order and playing soft cock footy

if footy is about respect from your peers in the dressing room.. im not sure how are guys have been looking at each other in the eye for the last few years...
we need to develop a very had edge... and the boys will be rapt they did if it gves them a reward on the end of it all.

footy is a career but it should also be about giving yourself every chance for achievement

Maybe they've been looking at each other, just not in the eye....respect in the dressing rooms is earned in different ways

Too many of wins over the years have been big fluky comebacks or freak wins against the occasional top team off their game. It throws us off what really is required to win big finals like games. When fev was around it was real bad as we (fans included) partied like prelim 99 and got cheeky in the media. Then come out and lose the next week. If that comeback against the tigers had of came off it would have been the same. Cracks papered over.

This week id love a real tough game where we hold our own right to the end. Low scoring would be even better. 70 tackles each. Game style that is consistant all game.

They have been achieving history, just a different type of history, one based on humble acts of remaining within ones self, not being overly loud, not being aggressive or overly confrontational, letting their actions do the talking so to speak, they're just a bunch peaceful blokes who until recently were led by a really nice guy off the field, and a verbally quiet one on the field. This unforgiving hard edge philosophy of approaching footy that your referring to is new and uncomfortable to large portion of the group. Its uncomfortable and abnormal. But they'll get used to it in time (least the new blokes will-some may be to far gone, pacified) :smoking:

Yep. That's also the only way to win finals games.

Sad but true...all we ask is stand by your man and shepherd and hurt the opposition

I hope the players make an effort to find the c@$t in them....they've got it and they just have to find it.
