I think their time of 'taking money' is coming to an end

its not going to get them where they need to be anyway

they need to start 'making money'

The only thing to do here is to get on the front foot. Write an email, ask for a return phonecall. The biggest difference between this year and last is that the staff are prepared to listen. At the very least, you'll get some answers as to why they do things the way they do. For membership, contact Clinton Bown. Despite some of the content on TC being read by staff, none of us are communicating to the club via TalkingCarlton. Making yourselves heard isn't done via this site.

It boils down to whether you want to help your club get better or just complain that its no good.
Doc is saying that they appear to be better placed than before to actually make use of feedback

well Stephen can pass it on then - that's what this was for eh?

i see where you are coming from - but they shouldnt need this feedback if they were any good.

they will still get my money anyway because i am an idiot - so i will be helping.

An idiot for supporting your club? Look I know people want to made to feel like they are the most important person in the world, but at the end of the day membership is about supporting your club.

Ask not what your club can do for you, but what you can do for your club.

I probably sound like a bit of an apologist for the club, and I don't mean to be. I was as upset as any by getting dicked by the structure changes to membership. I was happily sitting in my premium seats that I paid plenty for and I sat there through all the shit years with the best view in the house of how terrible we were. Then as things come good I get belted with extra $$$ to sit there and finally have to relinquish because I can't have my son sit with me in that section.

I've been angry. I've thought about not renewing. I've thought about boycotting. In the end its hurts me more than it hurts the club. The club owes me nothing.

I am paid back when I see 22 blokes run out in navy blue and give their all and I sit their with my father and my son and cheer and yell and run the gamut of emotions of watching a game of AFL football. I am miserable when we lose. I am ecstatic when we win. And if anyone asks me why I say 'we', I know I am a small part of the club. I am member 1709969

If I was in Melbourne and got a seat and what not for my money it would be less an issue for me.

If I was in Melbourne I would probably join a coterie group or something like it.

But as it stands I get nothing and as i said before its effectively a donation and there is a lot out there competing for my money.

I have foxtel and can watch all the games in comfort without also donating to the club.

As i said before I am one that will still stump up the money for the memberships but the club needs to figure out how to convince all the other 'apathetic' supporters who get no return for their money into becoming members.

My raffle vs membership call was a better example how to handle the situation.

Also look at a rewards program. Find affiliate businesses that members get discounts at. Surprised half of lygon st isn't already involved in something like this. Utilise the supporters groups/clubs in each state to drive this also for interstate members.

If the club wants supporters converted to members there needs to be value and love. There are tonnes of supporters out there who don't get to games and don't therefore get a membership because they don't get a seat.

This is a big group where wins could be made by being innovative and showing some love.

Change the perception that a membership = a seat

just researched collingwood packs a bit more

Magpie Insider - For those who cant make it to games

Cap, Scarf, lanyard, sticker, 10% off merchandise purchases, online magazine, coach emails and the rewards program

$50

Carlton Equivalent

Scarf, Apron, lanyard, sticker, magazine, coach emails

no merchandise discount, no rewards program

$130

cmon

no wonder we lag behind so badly

To be fair, the carlton one represents the same percentage of household income as the collingwood one does.

so the crux of it is Grro that for an interstate member not attending the games you want more out of it. That I can understand. That makes more sense than just getting angry about a raffle. A Melbourne based member's return is easy. Its going to the game. Its being there. Its being a part of it. How do you make long distance members a part of it? I'd suggest you'd looking for more than 5% off at Myer. I didn't know they had taken away voting rights. That would be the first thing that should be addressed. You're either a financial member or you're not. Does your membership give you access to the Carlton away game(s) in Perth? Perhaps making a deal with interstate clubs that is reciprocated for their fans in Melbourne could be a start.

I'd also look at affiliating with a hotel group that perhaps could arrange a discounted rate for interstate members that they could use through the season with entry to a game of their choice.

im not angry AT the raffle - just disappointed with the clubs approach to it.

i explained if they changed their approach how the outcome for them would have changed.

we get 'access to buy tickets' to games here in perth - which means queing on the phone at 8.00am for when the tickets go on sale at 9.00am and are then sold out at 9.05am

this isnt the clubs fault though - this is the AFL's, Subi Ovals and the Eagles/Dockers issue

5% off at Myer and $80 less for the membership makes little difference to my hip pocket but is a fair turnaround in value for your average supporter that we are wanting (are we?) to convert to members.

As for not wasting my time, they lose me in the introduction speech where they dont ask if you have time to talk, but launch straight in and ask how you think the boys will go this season. If you gave a shit about how the boys went this season Id be more inclined to give a shit about your call and the raffle.

See this is what you've never understood. I dont think the club is perfect, and I've been critical of them in the past as well. Just in different ways.

I know you're joking Keogh, but that's part of Carlton's problem. My middle-class Collingwood supporting friends (and there are a few of them) are teachers, lecturers, head chefs, consultants, obstetricians and gynecologists.

They're in their mid-30's to mid-40's so can identify with the young couple pictured with their two kids. They have a mortgage in Eltham, go to church twice a year (C & E), shop at Coles. He drives a second-hand Holden, she drives a new SUV.

Everyone knows that Collingwood looks after its members -the best in the AFL

CEO Gary Pert has stated publicly that membership is core business for the Club

That is why Collingwood will realise 100,000 members in due course.
