Just goes to show that a club can't afford to put a bloke in as senior coach who feels the weight of expectation as a burden, rather than an opportunity to achieve something great. This is why the most successful coaches seemingly have very healthy egos. Most people with normal characters wilt under pressure. A few actually rise to the challenge.

Malthouse may not be the kind of bloke you invite over for dinner, but I don't think he sees a club's expectations of success as a cross to bear. He may be doing this purely because his ego demands it, but at least he won't feel crushed under the weight of expectation.

so true

Must be a step up from Ratts' snakes !

Makes a mockery of the last 3 months of bullshit the club has spun which none of us would believe unless you were a complete utter moron.

Thats life anyway
Hope Malthouse still has it at his age and he changes these softcock bunch of downhill skiers.
We will be better off. The question is how much better will we be.
Pressures on Mick
Lets hope he lasts longer than two years so we dont pay him out one million plus hey

Get ready for the ride.

Don't judge a voice by its cover though...I understand he does a pretty good Rick Astley medley.

Upon reflection, Ratten's statement was just as much about how he feels the players have to 'carry the burden' of expectations... like it's a bad thing to have a club demanding excellence of its players. FMD, if you wanted to bottle an attitude guaranteed to promote acceptance of mediocrity... that'd be it.

Bring on the Malthouse!

He's committed to the Eastern Bulldogs under 16's for 2014.

Wont happen - was given the luxury of a 3 yr contract (something ratten never got) - I dont think any coach gets sacked with 2 years remaining on the contract. Any blowtorch on performances wont be started until midway through 2014 (at the earliest).

Furthermore, assuming a more normal injury list, it will be night on impossible to judge his performance in year 1 ie how much improvement is due to coaching and how much is continuity/fitness etc. It is the improvement from 2013 to 2014 that is going to be important.

It's not quite the same, but I can see the thinking behind your call.

Except on TC, where it started 2 months ago

Yes but Blight was employed by one of the greatest underachieving team of morons, fools and alsorans ever to take the greatest stage.

I used to feel sorry for their supporters till I had to listen to them during a game. Their supporters are as stupid as their management

Finally got to listen to it just then, had to watch it with the sound off at work. It's harder to lip read what Mick says when they're not losing a grand final like last time I did it. Great to see him fired up.

Blight was a very astute coach.
Hired him for a squillion, fired him in a blink and then appointed Thomas :screwy:

You're giving their management way too much credit.

It's only early doors but now that Ratts is gone, we probably won't hear "early doors" so much now.
