I would say a GOOD coach cruelled by injuries and a fixture.

A GREAT coach would likely have overcome this I think. Whether that means he should go - not sure but I am starting to lean more towards yes if the replacement is a GREAT coach.

A good coach would not have been outcoached by Primus. I suspect that was the tipping point.

Was he outcoached or did he just stuff up horribly? Simpson on Pearce stands out as one of the most defensive and weak positionings of the year - all Port needed was a sniff and good teams wouldn't have given them that.

Yes some teams got a very soft draw, but his arguments are lame and complaints juvenile.

This. One fixture against the Hawks, Crows, Eagles and Swans and some think the fixture is the problem?

Simple tactic this one. ''Divide and conquer''.

It makes you wonder whether we should adopt the rugdy league model of being more open with trades coaching appointments and sackings.
It would certaintly cut down on all the rumours

AFL 360 last night basically rubbished the whole story. Flatly denied by Swanny apparently. Video coming in a bit.

It's simple, and I'm surprised Ratten doesn't seem to understand.

In a 16 team comp, 50% of teams made the finals. So normally the eighth team (just marginally better than average won 11 or 12 games (half or just over)

In an 18 team comp with the same final eight, 44.4% of teams make the finals. Eighth is clearly better than the bottom half of teams. 9th is actually in the top half of the ladder. So it stands to reason that to make finals you are more likely to need 13+ wins. It's the new normal.

We play 3rd, 8th, 10th, 12th and 13th (current ladder) twice. Tough draw?

Yes some teams got a very soft draw, but his arguments are lame and complaints juvenile.

What did Ratten say about our draw? I missed it obviously.

are we there yet ?????

this has been like watching a car crash in super slow motion !

Carlton demands the ultimate success...it became apparent to me some years ago that rats was not capable of delivering it...and ultimately there was to be only one conclusion...a messy one !

the sad truth is this should have happened 2 years ago !

I think you will find it wont be messy at all and most of the messy stuff is already done.

Some may even respect the way Ratts has handled it all in the wash up.

I'm beginning to suspect that Ratts already knows he won't be there next year.

Always a worry when you get the full support of the board

Malthouse I could cope with, but I'll be very unimpressed if we got Cloke. Not sure what the fuss is about, he's actually not that good.

Agreed. cas can take a grab and do all the things we'd be looking at Cloke and his 1 million per year for .... They both kick like pants, so imo it has to be a no to Cloke.

If Cloke was firing atm, Collingwood would be unstoppable for this years flag.
I am not saying I want him at $1mil/year but lets not downplay one of the most influential players in the league

Ratts may have the boards support to stay for the rest of the season but i'd say next year would be a whole different thing !

Dawes and Cloke not doing much, Johnson and Krakouer to come back in and beat the top side without Swan.

They might be a handful anyway.

The alleged 'Journalist' has phoned the Club to say he is sorry for running the BS on Ch7. The story is a fabrication of the highest order. The alleged 'Journalist' should come on Ch7 news, man up and apologise to Ratten, Swann and the Carlton Board.

Regards Cazzesman

At least he hasn't given up his source. Does TC qualify as a source?

Mainstream media in general has a poisonous culture of distortion and lies - whatever it takes to get sales - with next to no accountability.

Has anybody stated Ratts will be coach next year from within the club?

I think the last we heard from the club was Sticks on 4th of July:

Asked if he would guarantee Ratten his position at least until the end of the season, Kernahan said: ''Absolutely. If that changes, I will let everyone know first up that that has changed.''
When questioned further on 3AW last night, he replied: ''He has a contract, we will back him all the way. There is nine games to go, there is a lot of footy left to be played. We are not going to give it away just yet.''
When pressed again about guaranteeing Ratten's position until the end of the season, he replied: ''I hope he is [in the job]. Well, at this stage, he will be the coach until the end of the year, for sure, yes.''
