Why would you drop Bootsma with a bye the week after?

We need to win this game. I see no suitable matchup for Bootsma and with the eagles big bodies there is no need for the kid to play in this game.

Doubt it will make a difference personally. Every player, inc VFL is bigger bodied than Boots.

Scotland? Calf magically got better? Can still train with such a injury? Rumours that he isn't actually injured true?.... :confused:

Who know's.

He's got some things going on in his life, if the club gave him a week or so off to clear his head, that's perfectly reasonable.

We do have a bye coming up...... probably could have been suited to then more practically.

Every player in my daughters 12's netball team is bigger bodied than Boot's.

No point dropping him now. Got a sneaky suspicion he could play forward if required, seems to have "the smarts".

It's only practical if it it works.

No point having a day off a week after you feel sick.

If we think that we're going to knock over a side like West Coast trying playing the same game we have since collingwood that has been found out and shut down by every single team we've played then we are kidding ourselves... Major changes like this need to happen to try to formulate something... thoughts?

Also.. bloody joke that walker hasn't been forward much this year - i know we like his running ability but ratten must have forgotten he kicked 50 goals as a forward last year...and whats our issue right now?.. kicking goals.... no brainier if you ask me...

Assuming Carrots & T-Bird are right to go, but that Warnock & Scotland are not....

B: Duigan Jamo Tuohy
HB: AJ Watson Gibbs
C: Simmo Judd Yarran
HF: Armfield Hendo Collins
F: Betts Hammer Walker

R: Kreuzer Robbo Carrazzo
Inter: Brock, Garlett, Thornton
Sub: Ellard

In: Carrazzo, Thornton
Out: Warnock (inj), Bootsma

* Bootsma's done well for a 1st year player, and it's tempting to play him in his home state with the Bye to follow, but with the short week and the travel I would give the kid a rest now. Let's not flog him. I wouldn't play him in the VFL this weekend either - he can play next in the VFL on 23 June (when Carlton has the Bye);
* I like the flexibility T-Bird gives us. It allows us to play 3 talls (Hendo, T-Bird and Kreuzer or Hammer) + Walker at times, and of course he can go into defence if needed;
* I seem to recall that AJ did fairly well last year at Subi vs WCE in the semi final, and I think the MC will remember that too. He survives for another week (at least);
* If Yarran isn't fit, don't play him and give Lucas a run.

A lot would have to go right for us to win this, but the big ground should suit us. We need our so-called 'mosquito fleet' to fire and take their chances when they come. Run, run, run and take the game on. Tackling and defensive pressure from every player must be relentless. Tall forwards can NOT allow the opposition to take marks in our forward 50. Get off to a good start and make the crowd less of a factor.

If Laidler is a surprise inclusion, be interesting as to which way they go with it..drop watson or Bootsma?

Would think Bootsma, if they intend to swing Hendo forward every now and then also..

Laidler Rhino? Think the two that have gathered momentum are Scotland and Carrazzo, but haven't seen any mention on Laidler other than possibly after the bye as best case scenario.

BTW, dont ever go back and check but does anyone ever get the in's/out's/match up's/positions close in any of these threads.

Couldn't tell you from week to week where the MC see Russell, Mclean, Lucas, Watson, Warnock, Collins, Armfield, Bower, Curnow, Ellard, Thornton or Joseph fitting in, as well as trying to predict the availability/fitness of players based on our injury reporting, or what role Yarran, Gibbs, Henderson, Kreuzer, Hampson, Robinson or Walker might be playing so I tend to stay out of it!

Team starting to look better.

I thought you wanted Armfield taken around the back and shot.

Like to see us really structure our side a bit better and back ourselves in.

B: Yarran Jamison Duigan
HB: Bootsma Watson Lucas

C: Simpson Robinson Touhy

HF: Gibbs Henderson Judd
F: Kruezer Walker Betts

Int: Armfield Collins McLean (Garlett)

Let Judd start forward and work into mid when needed.
Touhy up to wing and dropping back to help defence. Ala Scotland role.
Gibbs as a target as well as defensive forward on Hurn. Needs to work both ways and create opportunities.
2 ruck man only
Run from defence
Midfield need to work together and its about "numbers" at the contest.

With that HB line we are going to need more than 2E dropping back to help defence.

Looks like Laidlaw has been replaced then.
