I don't see why would we even bother with McLean?

He's shown nothing in 3 years? What's gonna happen if we pick him this weekend? What - he's all of a sudden gonna play a blinder racking up 40possesions and 5 goals????? Doubt it.

I watched him in the VFL this weekend and he looked out of his depth.

Forget him........... move on...........

I'd be bringing in Bootsma and Lucas (only due to injury) and Waite (if fit).

Russell should be banished (but Ratt's loves him so he won't be)

Has Brock been given a chance to establish himself in the side - He hasn't played more than 2 games in a row since he was drafted 3 years ago-

blokes like Duigan- Curnow- Touhy- Armfield - Ellard - Russell - Lucas have been given huge blocks of games and not produced consistantly - Yet Brock is expected to walk in and tear it up first game back

The way the club and supporters have treated this bloke is disgraceful

I don't see how McLean would do worse in the clearances. It's hard to be worse than zero. Our clearance stats are exaggerated by the fact most are ineffective and under pressure while our opponents are getting clear kicks to teamates
He may be slow but tell me which of our midfielders isn't being run off by their opponent at the moment.

Maybe but to me it just shows how bad we are. McLean might come in and do okay against Melbourne as they do not hurt you the other way but does it make us a better side?

Not much of an alternative if Murph and Carrazzo are gone for a while.

I'd say Eddie if he had a half decent tank..

We may not have any left?

Sounds like Jamison, Duigan, Murphy, Henderson may all be missing.

Probably means that the usual suspects get another go when they don't deserve it.

There is not much in the 2s but we need to drop some players. You can't reward players who have played poorly over the last few weeks. Problem is who comes in? We should give Collins a game. We need to see what he has to offer. Maybe Bootsma just to give him a run and to send a non performer back to the 2s. Big K had a shocker and it is hard to believe he is not carrying something. If he is injured, rest him. If Warnock is not right I'd be happy to have Hammer carry the ruck. Might be good for him. Tuohy looks a bit lost but we need to persevere with him, give him a run on the ball, on the wing, free him up, let him get a few kicks and run with it, take a bounce, get some confidence. I like Hendo down back, but we have nothing up forward so we have to send him forward. When Hammo is in the ruck why don't we ever try to have him use his pace to exploit his ruck oponent and create an option. It's the one area where he has it over most rucks and yet we don't ever seem to use it. Melbourne are awful, so if we are going to try things this is the week.

Eddies tank isn't án issue any more. But will he put his head over the ball and grab it?

Other players need a lighter game, so if McLean comes in for a fortnight as a battering ram then that's OK IMO.

Out: Murphy (inj.), Russell, Duigan, Kreuzer (inj.)
In: McLean, Lucas, Buckley, Waite

Hampson will purely ruck for the day, with Henderson and Waite pinch hitting with support around the ground, affording Kreuzer a rest. Hendo up forward again to help straighten us up.

McLean in to support the extra runners that will enter into midfield play in Garlett, Buckley and Lucas. Lucas to rotate with Gibbs off HB and HF/mid. Buckley a high HF. Thornton as 3rd defensive tall and to take on the role Duigan is trying to play in the absence of Laidler (and doing so very poorly). Russell because like Duigan, he is just too slow right now to make good plays.

Scotland the sub so he can get a rest.

This game will be decided in the middle. In fact, the entire game may just be played between the two 50 metre arcs, with neither team capable of clearing it for 120 mins.

0 - 0.

Conceivably, there might be no supporters for either team there on Sunday.

Got to get Gibbs and Watts into my Supercoach team this week.

They could easily have 200 points each kicking to each other as loose men in defence and no pressure. :smoking:

PS especially since Ratten will tag Clark, Trengrove, Grimes, Jones, Magner, McKenzie and Blease.

It was about a year ago that we played the "bruise free" game against Melbourne, quite ironic isnt it?

What was evident yesterdeay was the blind disposal from stopages.

Is there any talk out there?

One think you see with Betts with in the guts, his clearance work is terrific and his hands are so clean in traffic. Not to mention his commitment to defence when the other side has it.

Generally speaking we need our stronger bodies in the guts. Touhy for one. He's a hard body, not going well in defence, shown when up the ground he can kick a goal and is as hard as nails

Gibbs will tag Morton, both will be playing in sumo suits to avoid contact.

Older players who are thereabouts: Collins, McLean

Youngsters who played well last week: Buckley, Bootsma

Blokes who aren't in great form, but wouldn't hurt to see in the seniors: Kerr, McCarthy.

And then there's Lucas, who seems in good form for a quarter or two, then disappears.
And Warnock, who simply hasn't played, so is difficult to judge.

As it is we're likely to lose Henderson, Duigan and Murphy to injury. Then, presumably, we'll drop one or two who haven't been playing 'to instruction'. So... Perhaps five players out? With Waite as an automatic IN, that leaves about four spots up for grabs.
