Pro: My soccer game kicked off at 3 pm so i missed most of it.

Con: Nobody else in the office seems to have missed it and most have been only too happy to swing by and fill me in on the finer points.

I've only skimmed through this thread, but I noticed that both of these points have already been raised. They may have been raised in other threads as well, so forgive me if I'm going over old ground, but I haven't spent much time on here lately. Nevertheless, I believe they are important, so...

It seems to be an instruction to go down the flanks as a first option. Even against Richmond, the plan seemed to go wide. I was concerned then, and against Brisbane, that it would become problematic, especially against decent opposition (which we haven't really encountered yet, and that's a worry) and teams who can play the rolling zone (which Sydney did (and, along with Adelaide, were doing it before Hawthorn started with it, just not quite as structured), and both Essendon* and Brisbane did in patches). Players are getting the ball, and their first look is to the boundary, then across ground. They are missing open targets in the corridor. Maybe it's Ratten just taking it step by step, but at some point, we need to back our midfield to use it well through the corridor. We will not be a top 4 team until we do.

Second point is this hilding the ball in the air malarky, and playing keepings off at the end of quarters. We've done it twice this year, both times when we were on a roll and had the opposition on the ropes. At the end of the second quarter against Brisbane, and the end of the first quarter against Sydney. On both occasions, the opposition came out the next quarter and steamrolled us. Against Sydney it was a complete disaster, we played absolutely into their hands, it's how they wanted us to play. And WE LET THEM back into the game. Again, at some point, Ratten has to have the confidence to say, we're on top, let's bury them.
