We have 2 major reasons to hate Hawthorn now

2006 - Felching tries to poach Thornton and fails to realise that good players cost clubs more than a pile of his naval lint and a pirated copy of Jurassic Park

2008 - Clarkson demonstrates as much romantic sensibility as Ike Turner and triple teams Fev to prevent him cutting into their precious percentage in a game they had sewn up in the first quarter and are guaranteed to finish 2nd

2010 - crashes the set of Ian Aitkin this is your life

Tyrant your posts are a joy to read :)

I think I will take the job on as set builder that night and Clarkson can make an entrance a la Graeme Kennedy did one night on IMT - and brought the set down around his head.

But it wont be made of foam.

You guys are getting carried away over nothing.

hawthorn was trying to stop Carlton scoring goals, not a personal vendetta against fevola.

When you guys played a normal forward line, Hawthorn marked a normal forward line.

When Carlton made it abundently clear that they were going to ridiculous lengths to ensure Fev took the last kick, Hawthorn had to counter that.

It was Carlton that decided that the whole focus was not winning or competing, but to get Fev his ton.

I've thought about this a lot. There's merit in what eldorado says. But I think of the good old days when we were the most arrogant, most ruthless sons of bitches in the league. I'm pretty sure we WOULDN'T have employed Hawthorn's/Clarkson's tactics purely because we had such out and out champions who could nail the opposition forwards one on one 90% of the time. Waite, Lofts, Southby, Silvagni, Sexton, Dean, etc. In fact, I reckon the forementioned players would have been filthy if such a lack of confidence was shown in their abilities.

I suspect that's why it niggles so much. That, and the fact a few of their players punched the air when the siren went. To me that was a clear indication that their's was a personal vendetta.

So, yeah - not good form. But not illegal. What we must ensure is that we tear them apart next time - revenge is a dish best served cold. The improvements required over the summer have been documented and discussed ad nauseum on this and other websites. For me, the most striking aspect of Saturday night's game was the sheer size and strength of those hawks players. I mean, the thighs of some of their players were as big as the chests on some of our skinny kids.

To the gym Batman.

Seriously... im a huge supporter of Fevs talents.. as everyone probably knows!!!

BUT... What Clarkeson did was ok.. he is teaching the Hawks a lesson on ruthlesness.. and youre not going to be a powerhouse footy team without being ruthless!!!

Fev is exactly where our team ended up... he was just outside of kicking his cetury and the team as a whole were just outside the eight!
Whats important is they ALL know.. including Fev that nobody is going to hand it to you on a plate!!!
They all have to take their eight weeks off and then train hard on the track and in the gym.. and discipline themselves mentally and physically for the real job that is ahead!!!
If you do all those things.... youre going to get EVERY chance to pay the Hawks back with some ruthlessness..and hopefully with interest!!!!

We can sit here and bitch and moan.... but thats the job at hand!!!

Could not agree more.......An invaluable lesson to top off a great season.

I thought he played Croad down back with the expressed intention of getting the ball to give it to Fev, since our other forwards/mid field weren't doing the job.

I am amazed that Fev kicked 7 in the first place, especially after being held goalless in the first half.

I really don't see any lack of sportsmanship in this case. A runner came and got croad within a minute after he dropped back and croad was just sticking to their game plan... Actually, it was refreshing to see a team so well-drilled in their game plan that they know where to go and when.

HTFU!

I wish Fev had got the 100 as well BUT:

100 is only 99 + 1,

If Franklin had ended with 99 most of the posters on this thread would have been laughing at him (and don't try denying it - look at Richmond finishing 9th as an example),

Carlton throughout the years have been known for their hard-nosed, stick-it-up-em approach (eg: "we are Carlton ...... F... the rest"). Yet now we want the opposition to give Fev every opportunity to kick another goal.

Get fair dinkum!!!

And now Hawthorn should HTFU.

If I hear another Hawk supporter complain that "Junior Boy" should have won the Rising Star I'll scream! He's played 22 games as a small forward -and kicked 20 goals, less than 1 a game. Sure I know that's not all there is to being a small forward but it's a HUGE part.

Without checking I would suggest even Milne who was dropped mid-season (and has never been even an irritant playing interstate) would have maybe 40.

Maybe if we had dropped Russell... he would have given us 30 to 40...
