I agree with Houlihan further up the ground. His run and finishing is a must need and that is an understatement. I am of the old school anyway so "quarter back" half backs don't sit will with me.

Agree there. We don't have enough skilled players supplying our forwards to be able to afford to have him deep in defence and out of the play. Did a lot of that in the Port game when played in the midfield in Campo & Scotland's absence and I don't know why he hasn't stayed there rather than returned to defence and often too far out of the play to deliver the ball with skill into the forward line.

Houla hit Fev every time on the chest in the Port game.

Tonight i had the pleasure to head on to the Melbourne Town Hall sn listen to Professor Fotis Kafatos - head of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory.
After listening to him talk about being the first man to find the genome of the mosquito and how the worlds number 1 killer today is still malaria, i felt compelled to put up my hand and ask him if he could do something thats of great benefit to TCers.
Can he please find on find where the leadership at the Carlton Football Club is... unfortunately he looked at me and took another question.....

Ah Synbad...the Alfred Deakin Innovation lectures...
I was there on Friday at
"The Prosthetic Revolution:
sport, technology and the paralympics"

There was no mention (except for the intro title) of revolutions, technology, innovation, prosthetics and the closest thing to sport and the paralympics was Louise Savage telling her life story....apparently she compteted in the paralympics.

Missed my opportunity to ask about the future directions of CFC...damn...would've been closer to the mark!

Basilaki Louise Savage would be a great person to bring into the club for a talk. Shed put our able bodied blokes to shame.
what she has had to overcome to play sport none of these guys will ever imagine.
Sport is about more than money to some people. Its about the human spirit.
Some sportsmen and women lose sight of what theyre really out there doing.
Louise would help put some perspective back .

Couldn't agree more...wasn't taking a swipe at Louise...trust me on that...shame the lecture didn't cover what you just outlined.

She's had a life of "no you can't"s and proved "YES you can"

"1999 Sportswoman of the year" - (open catagory - not disabled sports) says it all...but we're maybe getting off topic

billy, i didnt think you were taking a swipe at a great sportperson like Louise Savage.. I wonder how she got the french pronounciation in her surname ?
The club could do worse than invite her down for a chat with the boys in my opinion.

Anyone see the story today about the 18 yo playing for Vic U18s with half his arm missing?

I reckon that kid could teach a few of our boys something about playing with determination and dedication....

yes he'll have a problem building up on the amputated side BUT should be getting as much support as possible to be doing it.

Again doing as much as possible with what you've got....

I reckon Synbad should get up in front of the group and tell them what he thinks about leadership, heart, dedication, life and everthing.

And then the group can use him as a tackle bag.

BTW Had the pleasure of talking to Ms Savage many years ago, an amazing determined woman.

Tah! so it wasnt a pretend French pronounciation ... like the ski instructors trying to pick up little girls at Bulla only to get back to their normal Frankston accents when theyre pissed??

Just a question...

Does the very asking of the question of 'Was Coach X outcoached?' suggest that the asker is naive to the skills, talents, experience and footy knowledge of said Coach X?

Why the coach was outcoached is simplistic because that would mean that the coaches work is done on saturday.
In fact the coaches work is done each week during the week in the preperation and drilling of a football side.
We cant even tell is the game plan is working because theyre not doing what theyre supposed to.

Did anyone see one shepherd?
what happened to the blocks weve been working on all pre season??
Bounces.. anyone see a bounce??
Contests... why is the ball coming out of the attacking 50 ?? Assuming were bombing blindly shouldnt we be capable of salvaging 50% of the inside 50s???...

Were not doing anything Denis wants us to do...
So why blame Denis???
sure there are mis matches on saturdays.. but thats not what all this is about.

Some of you love the obvious.. the Teague scenario.. or the 30 touches by a midfielder that picks them up at half back or running wide ...

Its not about that....

yes it is Synbad. It's about that and many, many other things besides. Let's not say Denis does nothing (or little influecne of a Saturday) let's say his coaching is limited by a poor list and having to make choices he'd rather not make but even so, even so, a blind cat could see after 15 minutes that the boys were not doing anything and that he needed to make some decisions about the shape of the game - decisions he made frequently in the Wizzfizz cup that slowed, stifled or bottled the game up.

Why did he leave it free flowing? Why did his use of the bench proceed along a path that was never going to impact on the game?

People have a right to question Denis and to think Wallace simply outcoached him, my point is

did Denis allow this to happen? is this part of a bigger plan?

time will tell.
