Cammo made an interesting point to this morning regarding the news of Hyundai jumping back on board with Carlton.

He pointed out that Carlton could have marketed the sponsorship on the basis that Carlton won it's last premiership under Hyundai and that we need a little bit of that old magic to send us further forward.

Well Swann mentioned it but we have to look forward rather than back I guess.

Such as...

I can put on my old Carlton/Hyundai polo shirt, tell myself nothing has changed, and not have to fork out anything for a new one! 8)

Swann said at the Presser that it was by far the biggest sponsorship he'd ever been involved with....yes....EVER !

So it's bigger than any of the C/wood deals !

Interesting to see channel 9 did not have any story regarding the sponsorship/Judd's number.

Jealousy is a curse Effes.

McChins is howling at the moon at the moment because Swann and Dick are crapping all over him.

What a disgrace that was. Instead we had to hear how Cameron Wood didn't complete his time trial.

Channel Nine are a disgrace, lead story last night was a fabricated story about Pratt going before the AFL and now tonight don't even show Judd or the Hyundai sponsorship. Instead some crap -Collingwood running laps!
No mention of the biggest sponsorship in AFL history, shame nobody watches Nine anymore I wonder why?

Bookie, 9 news did go with a bundled up story on Pratt and the club supporting him with quotes from Swanny at the presser, it also mentioned Judd wearing the number 5 - no mention of the Hyundai deal however.

Look at he pies, Lexus, Emirates, Mcdonalds, Sony

Carlton, Hyundai, Optus, Visy all second rate corporates.

Pub deals fail, Major sponsorship falling through, yet to begin development and some people on this site have the nerve to bag other clubs.

again, this carlton arrogance will be our downfall. People will never learn

The Carlton Football Club is a tarnished brand.

Go buy a hyundai!!!!! geez

Melvey, you frequently show that you have little to no idea on most topics, and once again you have not failed to disappoint on this one.......

Hyundai are far removed from the quality issues that they were experiencing 15-20 years ago when they were starting out as a car manufacturer. It takes a long time for the initial bad impressions to disappear, but Hyundai has been over that for a long time now.

I studied engineering (manufacturing) at uni, and I can tell you that Korean manufacturing industry techniques (especially at companies like Hyundai) are first class; the fact that they can do it at such low cost is purely economically based.

Tarnishing the brand, pffft!!!! The exposure that this partnership will give both brands will be of benefit to all involved. Hyundai is an emerging brand and so are we.

Besides, I couldn’t give a stuff where the money comes from; $2.5 million is $2.5 million every day of the week!!! :-D

When are you going to come out of the closet and admit your deep desire for Colonwood?

Hyundai corp is one massive company.Who percieves it to be cheap and nasty? Melvey, your are not in the business world are you my friend?

Hyundai doesnt just make cars.
Hyundai is the worlds largest ship builder...they have a large construction arm, department stores etc etc.
Korean corporates are sneaking up on the world.I would buy Samsung electronics before a Sony or Panasonic anyday of the week.Better value for money and very well made.LG is another good example.

Melvey, your so 1980's!
Ironically,in the 1980's, the average Aussie on the street considered Jap products as cheap and nasty.20 years later your holding Lexus (a Japanese product) up as a brand with prestige.

It does not matter what else Hyundai makes or does, according to the announcement, it is primarily to promote their cars that they have associated with Carlton.

I think that Melvey taking a cautious tone to the announcement is ok. It is true that our sponsorships brands are not as renouned as those of the club down the roads. But like so many of you have said, does it matter? Money is money and that is what the club needs. If we get another sponsor to match Hyundai then we'll be going very nicely.

It is great to see large corporations eyeing the Carlton brand again. This will only improve over the next few years as we show more on-field.

For a team that has had so little success over the past few seasons, it is amazing that anyone wants to buy into Carlton.

This sponsorship deal should be taken as a further sign of things going the right way for the blues. It is not a goal in itself, but a stepping stone to greater things.

Melvey - I think that it is worth celebrating the injection of cash into the club, but I also think you're right about it not being the most wonderful sponsorship that we could ever have.

Baby-steps... baby-steps...
