Wow, some folk really throwing in the towel at a time and year they acknowledge its anyone's season this year, when there's still 4 weeks to pass before the start of the Finals Season; amother 4 weekends.
I recall the best Carlton performances I have witnessed in the last 20 years outside Finals this year.
The GWS and The Geelong games put our club on the front page and on everyone's list as a genuine contender for this year's Flag. Theyt gave us reason to believe.
That's the same playing group peeps are writing off today. Whoa.
What I've learned is we are on a journey. On any journey there's high's and lows. Take the good with the bad, and try and show a bit of humility, and enjoy the toys in your cot.
Just yesterday, we, Australia, won Gold in the same cycle event we broke down in Tokyo. 3 of the 4 riders were the same. Just a tweak and resolve to do one better got us a win. Something similar happened in the pole vault. That is sport. And, the event they had to wait for was after a 4 year gap.
For us Carlton supporters, we have a week by week proposition ahead of us. A week is a long time in footy and we all know that. Heard that before?
I too feel for my kids following Carlton, but I tell them they can go and barrack for anyone they like, but I'm sticking phat. We live in Sydney. No way my kids could barrack for the Swans even if they are in their Academy, for many reasons. The supporters have no idea outside their bubble. Nearly everyone barracks for Swans in Sydney. There's no diversity. And when our team (Carlton) wins, they call my kids because they are the only Carlton supporters they know. When Sydney wins, they talk about the loss the Roosters had to endure.
The bottom line, is the club, does bring us great joy when we win, and we should cherish those times, and our jumper is the best looking footy jumper, perhaps in the world, and our history is richer than other AFL club.
What else do they want?
No team wins every year, let alone every week. Have a look at how many Finals campaigns in a row the Lions have had to endure without a flag, and heart break. Have a look where they came from. Ditto with Cats. The perennial bridesmaids in the 80's and 90's. Every team has a hard luck story.
Be proud, and be prepared for the day the boys deliver. It could well be this year. Now pick up your toys and put them back in your cot.
If not, why the fk are you following any team, let alone Australian Rules, the game? I bet the same people who threaten to stop supporting, or don't care, or disgraced in the team's performance, or display signs of hatred towards the club, are the first ones back on the wagon when we win, not a Flag, but a game. What sort of supporter is that? What sort of example is that for your kids? Maybe they suffer more watching your distress and schizo attitude. There's pills for those issues.
Talk about fickle.
Blues forever. No hope I could barrack for anyone else.
I believe the boys have done well, impressed me, in fact, have made our team relevant again, and now we have more wins than losses, I have even more reason to believe we are heading in the right direction.
I bet we win the next 3 games. Why? Because we can.
