Keeping Murph Kreuzer Simmo and trading SPS Dow Marchbank ????

Yeah it seems that way Rexy.

I don't think those 6 names are all part of the same equation.

I don't think Kreuzer Simmo and Murph will be first 22 players next year, let alone go on in 2021. The other 3 could easily be playing beyond 2021.

I guess the SPS Dow Marchbank Trades would be looking for players to fill needs (not really Ruck/Kreuzer's Back pocket/ Simmo and Murphy/experience)

Polson or Cotttrell may be seen as the heir apparent to Simmo's spot

I think the trend is for big bodied mids at Carlton (or express speed), and Murphy's leadership is keeping him in the team this year on a wing. We have cover for him eg Philp

Our backline seems to function well without Marchbank, but he is such a unique physical specimen and a better intercept and general mark than Plowman, Williamson and Jones.

pelchen words regarding recruiting and trading players. He said that you need to add to list players that will make an impact and dont trade away first rd picks. So we keep dow and maybe add kelly, williams or blakley.

Don't you love the speculation this time of year.

Good for a chat.

I have been watching him at north and he is a good player. Ahead of Harry in development.

Trouble is he plays fullback and we have the best in the comp.

Yes. my judgement wasn't so much about his ability, more that we don't need talls imo

I like Marchbank a lot, but at what point do we accept that he is the most injury prone player on our list? We're probably at the point in our development where we look to trade away early picks and decent players for needs. We've only traded out decent players for picks so far, and over the next couple of years might see some decent talent moved on. We have a ton of pretty young early draft picks, and need some mid career stars to go along with them. If Marchbank was a piece of the puzzle that got us Papley we should consider it. There's every chance he only plays 50 games in the next 4 years, can we carry him any longer?

I agree Marchbank is made of tissue paper. Has been right through juniors. He turns 24 in December. He can play, when fit, so tossing him out now is an interesting decision. Hopefully our fitness guru can get him right.

I think keep him, unless we get an offer to good to pass up.

I guess that basically says I am on the Fence because of the dreaded word Potential.

Your eyes aren’t deceiving you, he’s statistically one of the worst defenders in the league (both in the air and on the ground), and, has been his whole career.

Even though he was contracted, GWS couldn’t get rid of him fast enough.

Meanwhile, we’re trying to turn Marchbank into a wingman because there’s only room for one of Plowman/Marchbank in the back half! :banghead:

We gave up something like pick 21 (Fogarty) and Tuohy to get pick 15 from the Cats, to satisfy GWS!

Biggest mistake was McGovern. No matter how desperate we were at the time. We even had his position covered long term.

We also ended up with Macreadie and Williamson from that deal.

Plowman has been my whipping boy for years, just think he turns it over and doesn't provide any run
That said this year I think he has been exceptional :gift:
Plays on the best small/mid forward and gets his job done, usually with a couple of good marks thrown in
Also not turning it over like he was and has even taken ground this year
I think would be comfortably Top 10 B&F YTD

Plowman 3rd in 2019 CFC B&F and a 3yr extension in 2020 would suggest his Coaches see what is really happening and they must be happy.

Not with our deal with the Cats, which was as follows...

Geelong gave us pick 15, pick 63 and Billie Smedts

We gave them pick 21 and Zach Tuohy

We forwarded pick 21 to GWS in a different deal, used pick 63 for Cam Polson, and Billie didn’t last long

Cats used pick 21 on Lachlan Fogarty, and Zach’s still going
