Not for me at this stage. We need elite mids (ball users/decision makers) and mid depth before anything else. It will also depend upon what SOS sees coming through in the next 2 years. Our defensive stocks are fine. Like the Bulldogs did, when you are nearly ready go out and buy that one player that fills a void.

Perfect world get 3 picks inside Yop 10 and get Schache.

Also, may well be able to get someone like Harry McKay at pick 30 ish?

Fair enough, too. I do agree that we need another tall/big inside midfielder in the mould of Cripps, and for mine at this stage (though highly speculative) that's Curnow.

Out of interest psych, how do you see us getting 3 picks in the top 10?...

Also, BigKev, I don't think any of us really want to see Lachie leave (I think he's a ripping guy, and a solid contributor) but either he's "checked out" already (few ppl think his demenour post game suggests he has) or he's being looked at by SOS as a player we can easily move on to Geelong for a top 10 pick and ease the pressure on our TPP (which are maxed out atm as far as I can tell). You're right, not all picks work out, but top 10 picks are far more likely to work out and the more we have the better. Any player over 25 will be lucky to be around when we're next challenging (4 years or so, IF our picks come good and development is on point).

Who is clogging our tpp . I know people have demonized daisy as the chief culprit , but it must surely run deeper than that
Judd took a big haircut a few years ago, and i guess his impact is minimized by being a veteran. So who is left that is causing all these problems.?

Could it be players like warnock? Carazzo? If so wouldnt the problem be fixed at years end?

Ellard, White, Rowe, Warnock are all on Buddy deals

Jeez! You don't need a database to tell you that Eddie Betts is good at his job. You need to do the work but you also need the vision to know what's good for the club and the intellectual courage to pick the right names out on draft day. It doesn't matter how good the players are now in their prospective positions, it's projecting how good they will be with the required development in them. We could do all the work in the world but if we don't have high enough picks and if we have our hearts set on a particular type of player, we will miss out and be back at square one. Good luck on finding Eddie Betts number 2 with pick 22 if that's the kind of reactionary thing we think we need to do. On the contrary, we need to exploit the key position strength of this particular draft and we'll need to trade up to do it.

Essentially the database is a tool to assist in targeting particular types, not Actually doing the recruiters' job. Recruiters still need to see the player in action and make a judgement call based on vision of the player. It gives the club a leg up to look for particular types, particularly at under 18 & 16 level.

Yup, the metrics can help put extra names in the pool for assessment, and in combination with statistics services and the recruiters, can be refined when they throw in seemingly anomalous results.

SOS would be Jonah Hill (who is an amalgmation of two people from that era of the Oakland A's). :P

Would people be happy if we land either Schache or Weitering??
Add Bailey Rice..
Then add free agent Matthew leuenberger..
we could look something like,
Simpson Jamison Jaksch
Buckley Rowe/Weitering Tuohy
Docherty Gibbs Yarran
Menzel Henderson Rice
Everitt Casboult Schache/Kreuzer
Leuenberger Murphy Cripps
Players from;
Bell, Graham, Rainbow, Thomas, Boekhorst,
Holman, Smith, Whiley, White, Carrazzo and Armfield..
Maybe Silvangi???? Things aren't that bad..

It's been fun to win a couple of games but the reality is 5 weeks ago we had the worst list in the AFL and an interim coach, nothing has changed for me.

^ Rubbish!

This list has holes and we need to plug them but we don't have the worst list in the AFL and we aren't alone. Smart drafting and recruiting long term (not just 1 year) is what is needed. Plenty of successful teams show you the way if your willing to pay attention!!!

I also think some credit should be given, even though it won't be to our past recruiting team for players such as Cripps, Graham, Holman and I think you'll find a couple more coming through who can play as well.

Out of interest who is worse? We are competing with GCS & Lions for the spoon and IMO they have a lot more young talent and upside.

One or two key injuries and we would really struggle. We lack depth, youth coming through and genuine elite talent. Our list has the age profile of someone who is challenging for top 4. I like what is happening at the club and it can change quickly but the reality for me is we have a list as bad as there is in the AFL.

Our list needs refreshment and better development , so the current media scrutiny and attention will do us the world of good.
However some of the younger players are slowly responding and are showing good signs , don't forget the two Irish boys are going to be very serviceable too.
All in all we're ok , what really hurt us is the quality we lost under Mick , exiting :- Garlett, Robertson, Laidler , Eddie and Wait all for naught .
That was huge mismanagement.

We are a bottom 6 list.

But as mentioned above, that can change quickly with one draft/trade period.

Hopefully SOS and McKay can lift the bar this year.
