Most old WCE players believe one of his biggest impacts at the club, particularly early on, was that he raised the level of what was expected of the players. Lazy players got busy or got shipped, players stuck to the plan or got dropped until they stuck to the plan.

Looking at the Pies play after he arrived it seemed that happened there as well. Don't know about the Dogs (didn't see much of them on TV in the 80's in Perth) but I'd be surprised if it wasn't the case there as well.

If he can squeeze just a couple of percent more effort, discipline and belief out of this group I think he'll do well. If he can't we are sunk but then we'd be sunk anyway because it would mean that more than a few of our players are incapable of performing at the level required to make the top.

He changed the culture out at the kennel - they were a basket case and got them within a kick and a bit of the 1985 GF - he moved teh captain Jimmy Edmond on after the 1985 season nad then moved a Brownlow Medalist on at the end of the 1986 season after Brad Hardie thought he should never be dragged from the ground (that was against the Blues in 1986). The Bulldogs dropped down the ladder but they were a super disciplined side under Malthouse but he lacked the cattle. When he went West they had the cattle and took them to 3 GF's and 2 flags

He will help the team and club break some bad habits but i cant see him taking us to flag with the boundary line and press gameplan. If he has another trick up his sleave or shows that we not only had good talent on our list but infact great talent that wasnt being realised then he will prove people like me and Blue Vain wrong.

Still don't like the idea of him coaching Carlton. Makes me feel likeAFL has become a travelling money making circus with no soul (which it has) and has nothing at all to do with loving a team and hating others.

Good article in the Hun today about Malthouse's game plans. He is in fact a forward thinking coach who introduces new tactics and adapts his game plans as needed to win games of footy. Can't think of a better coach for us right now

You should go back to the membership thread kk to see that I'm a 2013 Carlton member. That the Gold Coast membership (and a whole host of other interstate supporter memberships) is better value than a standard adult 11 game membership should be a concern for our club and others. The club are aware of it - there's very little they can do, but going forward they can certainly attempt to make our interstate membership a lot better and perhaps the equal of that offered Victorians.

Having said that - I do know someone who took it up (an Essendon* supporter). They have already received it and the cooler is a beauty. He's used it already this summer. I was signed up in early December and am yet to receive the hat. Go figure.

This article certainly doesn't help me with my personal mantra of not getting excited until we deliver when it counts.

Just reading the age article what strikes me is that a big chunk of what was said and the outlook was also mentioned by the club and Ratten before the injuries too hold. :sly:
I'm not defending Ratten or his game plan if that's what it sounds like but it just goes to show how decimating injuries to key players can affect the whole playing group and how the snowball effect can and does shape outcomes of the season.
The bright side is I think MM might have a different outlook to our game and maybe different contingency plans if something similar might arise.

Not to pour too much cold water on it but reminds me of a similar article Rohan wrote about our depth after we beat the Swans in the preseason comp……..of 2004

Anyone catch his interview on Sen this morning?

Apparently rated Casboult and someone else as most likely to have an impact...Maybe Rowe?

..the biggest knocks on Ratts for me, was his inability to get the team winning more than 3 games in a row [took years to even win 3 in a row],, and the fact that over all his coaching time with us, no two ppl ever agreed on what the blues firm gameplan was [let alone an alternative if ours couldn't be implemented on gameday].. ..it was almost always talent over system..

Agree. MM likes the big targets inside 50. These guys will create targets and will minimum bring the ball to the ground for Eddie and the mids.

Levi showed quite a bit last year, much of it positive, it wasn't all that can't kick for shit.

Jokes aside if Casboult can improve his kicking a la Earl Spalding he has the makings of a damn good key forward.

Rowe has also given plenty of hope that there will be some rays of sunshine in the F50 when Waite misses large chunks of games due to injury and/or suspension.
