Imagine the media's reaction if Lyon backtracked and said he was willing to go through the process now.

Won't happen ofcourse, but hey, anything is possible.
I'll piss off now. :smoking:

Assuming what the media are saying is true and I know that is a huge assumption, something doesn't add up here.

The silence coming from sayers and the club , is Driving the media insane

I like sayers us staying firm and won’t buckle under Board challenges and media driven scrutiny

Our previous president would of already buckled ,

How stupid was that even to say !!

How are these media clowns even allowed to get paid , I’m surprised Caro would even stoop that low considering how she broke this story at the start of the year

Geez she is desperate now , and looking foolish

That was Tom Browne quality reporting

Where did you pluck that figure from, Jim? Walsh' diary?
I'd suggest there would be a heap of coaches lining up.

There was a bit of tongue-in-cheek about the post. Plucked the figure out of my arse for the sake of it. Wasn't meant to be that serious hence the "lol".

Still, given our history of swapping coaches and sacking them quick a few first timers would think twice. Why would you given the culture that you would have to get around that no one else has in 20 years, including premiership coaches. Tells me the issue is alot more than coaching, something that hasn't sunk in with many on here. Get sacked and that's likely your career done at head coach level. It's a risk at Carlton. It's alot more than just having a talented list.

If you personally were a potential topline coach would you be happy to come to come to Carlton and be a decent chance of having your career screwed?

Depends whether you want the job as head coach of an AFL club. If you are happy what you are doing then yes I agree with you. But there will be plenty of candidates applying because they see themselves as having what it takes to coach an AFL club.

Process
a series of actions or steps taken in order to achieve a particular end.

Carlton have always followed process. They are right now.

Never been a question of do we, rather what is it.

The outcome determines whether the steps taken were appropriate.

There is no suggestion that we are not pursuing the process
The media doesn’t understand it and are hysterical there is no indication whether Scott will or will not go into process .
Can’t see why we wouldn’t expect him to be part of process if we wanted RL to go through it if not or he doesn’t want to submit to process or the job go for a good young coach

Its not bad news you would think that any coaching panel installed would be better than we had for the last 2 years
Also in my view the only person that may not go through process is Clarko and even then I think the committee will still interview him if he wants the position
Seems like he doesn’t want to come all good if he does all good if he doesn’t

Process Shmocess - every club goes through some process although this current/recent talk about 'a process' might be a bit overblown.
'A process' (vs just a regular process) might work to assess the newbies.
Collingwood getting a lot of plaudits for only having 16 coaches, while we're up to no.8 in the past 25 years.

However, I don't remember the process that the Pies went through to secure Malthouse?
Or Buckley?
This is the first process they've ever gone through and who knows whether McRae will go well or not?

The Swans didn't go through 'a process' to get Roos. Nor for Longmire.
The Demons didn't go through 'a process' to get Roos, or Goodwin.

Hawthorn did go through a process of sorts but ultimately, it was Dunstall's case Vs Brereton's case for their respective picks. Notably, they did not go through a process to appoint Mitchell.
And the Bulldogs went through a process to get McCartney (Fail) and Beveridge (Score!)
And Richmond did it well with Hardwick

Not to mention the 'processes' that didn't work out too well for Dean Bailey, Mark Neeld, Brendan Bolton, Alan Richardson, Brendan McCartney,
So, to me, the jury is out about an extensive 'process' and it very much depends on where you are at as a club and the type of coach you think is required.

12 clubs have coaches now who went through an extensive process:
Successful 6/12 - Hawthorn (re Clarkson), Bulldogs, Tigers, West Coast, Geelong, Brisbane
Too soon - St Kilda, Freo, North, Collingwood, Adelaide
Not looking good - Gold Coast

7 clubs have coaches who did not go through 'a process':
Successful 4/7 - Melbourne, Sydney, Giants, Collingwood (Malthouse, Buckley)
Too soon - Ess, Hawthorn (Mitchell)
Not good - Carlton

While it worked for Hawthorn nearly 20 years ago, they are choosing not to do it this time with Mitchell.
My conclusion is that if you genuinely know what the coach brings, then you prob don't need a deep and extensive process.
If you are uncertain about what the coaches offer - i.e. rookie applicants, then it is probably a good idea to put them through the wringer.
In any event, it is vital that you have a pretty accurate view of where your own club is at (or genuinely open to hearing this from the prospective coaches... e.g. Parkin in the early 90s).

Here's a thought, if you've got crap players and go through a process then there is a good chance it won't work.
Yet:
If you've got good players and don't go through a process, there's a good chance it will work.

That took me a while but I got there in the end....phew

I think you're right azza.

It has been the case all along. The media need a story and to control the narrative. That way the 'story' has legs, and with that Headlines, followed by sales and clicks for the twits.

Quote:
Some media were of the understanding Lyon refused to go through a process and was originally promised the job, however, the former coach said those beliefs weren’t entirely true.

“None of that’s completely accurate, but I’ll take what I know with me and leave it at that,” he said.

“I made no assumptions, there were no promises made.

“I certainly have no regrets on anything.”

So, it turns out the media made up another Carlton story....to sell headlines.

Pathetic. AFL footy reporting is worse than the UK Daily....and New Idea.

Now the have another story, they start with...it is said...and I ask, who is said?

Carlton are now said to be interested in Brad Scott to be their head coach in 2022.

Quote:
Carlton are now said to be interested in Brad Scott to be their head coach in 2022.

The media are pathetic. This is not journalism. These folk are not journalists, even if they call themselves such.

There is not one iota of impartial fact reporting from them.

Ross Lyon's process would have involved a grilling about how things ended at both Freo and probably St Kilda.

Brad Scott's would involve a grilling about how motivated he is to get back into coaching.

Watching the odds is interesting

Last Monday Lyon was $1.80 - he is not even on the page now
Clarkson moved in from $5.00 to 3.50 yesterday
and Today Scott has moved from $3.50 to $3.25
Don Pyke slipped from $10 out to $15 overnight

I get the feeling we’re running a fairly tight ship at the moment as we’re not hearing many leaks. Media are just throwing darts at a board and whoever it hits is their person of interest to discuss.
I followed Caro’s reporting of the Hawthorn situation this season and it was very obvious she had someone high up and close to the action reporting to her regularly. All her predictions were said with authority and turned out to be true.
In our case, Caro seems all over the place and hasn’t provided much concrete or useful at all which tells me she doesn’t have a source close to the action at the moment.
Reckon this is all positive as we’ve leaked badly in the past and we seem to be addressing it.
The other factor looking over this is Brian Cook and it makes sense we would be very quiet if we think we’ve got Cook signed up and dominos will then start falling after that. I’ve got no mail but it does feel like we’re waiting on the Geelong season to finish to get an answer from Cook which may set in motion other departures and appointments

She certainly has seemed lost the last week or so.
It is unbecoming of her. I'd respect her more if she just came out and said "I don't know jack shit on this one".
Instead she is coming across a bit desperate.

Absolutely.
A 23 year old AA key forward and a 23 year old key defender who should have been AA.
A 21 year old AA midfielder. A 26 year old mid who was voted MVP of the AFL 2 years ago.
A returning Charlie Curnow with hopefully a full pre-season. Saad, a full pre-season into Williams, Stocker, Liam Jones, Cuningham returning, a top 6 pick this year and a couple of first round picks who haven't played 5 games yet due to injury. (Kemp, Philp) Pre-seasons into TDK, Jack Carroll, Durdin and Honey.
There's shitloads of potential. We need to keep our players on the park and to provide a game plan to maximises our abilities. A finals berth will be viewed as a successful year.
Let's not forget, we had games against NM and GC that would have put us in the 8 had we not shit the bed and been decimated by injury.
It's a plum job coming off a bottom 6 finish IMHO.
