Why would we have to pay jamo and walker anything? If they have retired it means they have walked away from the contract. Doesn't make sense for us to pay them otherwise couldn't any player sign a massive contract then retire and still get paid?

Also I've Been told from a reliable source Tom Mitchell to Carlton is all but a done deal

There was a lot of talk when Buddy signed his Swans deal that the club had to pay all of it, even if he retired 3 or 4 years before the contract finished.

Yeah, because he was a free agent.

Don't want to rain on your parade Dk, but I've been told , from a " reliable" source, that Mitchell has a 5 yr deal on the table from the Swans. The only sticking point at the minute is the $$$$.

I highly doubt he'll be leaving the Swans, and it's even more unlikely he'll end up with us if he does.

If I' m wrong......I'll eat 1AW's hat.

We are paying minimum salary cap. Who do we want to give Walker and Jamo's salary to?

Won't happen. My suspicious mind tells me his stuffed back.. Errrrr mental health issues, is part of the warm up process of why we should 'forget about the contract and just move on, for the sake of the player'

Besides loyalty there is nothing to stop a player hanging around and soaking up a list spot if contracted. The conversation that follows is about Club: you're finished but contracted, what proportion can we pay you to p off? v Player: I'm spent but I have a contract, so if you can pay me out Ill retire and then your cap is free next year.

It's no different to other personnel contracts. That's why we prefer to keep them short.

Yeah, because he was a free agent.

Free agents are different. Because the original club has the option of matching any restricted free agents offer from another club. Otherwise a player and new club could come up with any amount to deter the other club from matching it and then change it after the player has changed clubs.
If Buddy retires early the Swans still have to include his contract in their salary cap, unless the AFL do a shifty and let them out of it.

That's my recollection too kezzza.
Thankfully I have complete faith that the AFL would never make shit up on the fly to suit one of its favourite clubs..

IN-FORM defender Zach Tuohy has opened discussions with Carlton on a new deal.

Tuohy is part of a large contingent of Blues set to come out of contract at the end of this season and there has been growing industry speculation opposition clubs were starting to circle the Irishman.

But AFL.com.au understands the 26-year-old is solely focused on continuing his career with the Blues beyond 2016, with talks between the parties ongoing.

With Byrne out with a serious injury you'd think Tuohy will be re-signed

At least 12 changes according to barass70, but he didn't specify whether that includes rookie list.

With Byrne out & gussy perpetually injured/out of time on rookie list, Zach needs to stay

Plus his form lately is pretty impressive
