Those complaining about him, read his new book. He is a very passionate man, who really believes and stands by family and also really values someones character. Wears his heart on his sleeve and is very sensitive, which is why he shows his emotion so much.
I am very looking forward to what he can bring to Carlton.
Why do some of you have to be so negative. You want Ratten, why ? cause he is a past Carlton champion.
Malthouse may not have won as many premierships as you thought he would, but read his book and you will see what he was up against, and also the success he did bring to the organisations he worked with, you understand him as a person a lot more, rather than the snippets you see before or after a game..
DG, I was well and truly in the "keep Ratts" camp and since you ask "Why" I will tell you ...
Firstly Ratts win/loss ratio compares favourably with other coaches for the equivalent period of their career. The club improved steadily under him up until 2012 and I believe that that blip can be explained by injuries. I've heard many knowledgeable people comment favourably about his tactical nous and understanding of the game. It has been suggested that his weakness was his ability to be authoritarian. Not sure about that, but I do think that he improved each year in the job at would have been at his best at the helm in 2013. Lastly we'd just signed him and his assistants 12 months earlier. I'd prefer the club honour such a new contract and show some consistency.
Now he's gone though I'll adjust. I like the idea of players hearing a different message. It's not that they'll forget what they learnt from Ratts, just augment it with new knowledge. The "favourites" ledger will be wiped clean. Good. Players that haven't performed up to our expectations, (I'm talking about you Bryce), will get another go under a new mentor and may find something.
If nothing else it makes season 2013 more interesting. Bring it on.
(but heaven help MM if Richmond take us Rnd 1

).
PS - Not sure I'd take too much notice about what people write about themselves in books.
