Haynes gave us much more than Gov

Haynes was in our best 19 imo
I get the round 1 criticism but last week he was good- standard whereas Gov was lost.

Yeah. It’s a bit harsh to be dropping blokes because they weren’t getting set up quick enough to cover the unforced errors from the midfield.

While we’re on defenders, I’m as keen as anyone to see Carroll get a run. I think he’s the type we’re looking for across half back… BUT, it shouldn’t be forgotten that the kid’s professional standards saw him delisted six months ago. AND, even if he has turned the corner, he’s still never seen an AFL level forward set up.

Kemp worked his way into the side last year with a series of 20 disposal, 10 intercept games in the 2s. The sort of stuff that screams “ready”. Let’s see something like that first.

How many consecutive games did kemp have 20 disposal, 10 intercept games in the VFL ?I can't recall him playing 2 games in a row in the VFL last year. He got dropped to make way for Marchbank in key defensive post. Came back a week later to replace the injured Marchbank. Like for Like.

I get your point, but Kempy was preferred ahead of Young in defence for most of the year. Kemp was an emergency another game, and got dropped again towards the end of the year. We didn't have depth in KPD with S.Durdin out to. IMO Kemp was gifted a few games due to the unavailability of alternatives.

What do you mean by kid's "professional standards"?

Why don't you call it for what it was that saw him delisted come year's end: injury.
Groin injury didn't allow him to see any ground time.

Injury didn't allow him the opportunity show his professional footy standards.

But we saw him as a standout in the praccys, along with Lucas. Kempy didnt stand out in praccys, nor did McGovern. If most recent form counts, then I had Carroll ahead of Gov for Rnd 1. Me thinks reputation gifted Gov a spot ahead of carroll. That's just me. Hence, why I want pressure on the lazy, out of form players by avoiding gifting games. Carroll showed something.

I don't expect Carroll to be selected this week, but I am making a strong point about Govs form.

On the surface it's great that Harry is in, but on a deeper level, what message does it send to the rest of the group?

We talk a lot about selection integrity, and if the rumours are to be believed and he found it too hard to front up and play for a couple of weeks, then he decides he's right and walks back in?

Lets not forget Weitering lost his entire life savings but kept finding the strength to play.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Zac Williams plays.
Round 6 last year against GWS he was subbed off early for precautionary reasons (associated with his achilles) and yet he played the following week.

Just a thought, Why don’t we play Doc at half back where he was all Australian, not sold on Boyd he’s 26 and looks undersized.
Moir has an x factor about him id prefer his 5-8 touches over Evans or durdin
Lord does some good things but his kicking lets him down currently probably look at binns
We can win this !

“Had to learn how to be a professional” - M.Voss

You’re right, he was delisted due to injury… an injury that he brought with him, that dragged on as long as it did because he didn’t give it the attention it needed.

Just a kid that didn’t heed the messages from a couple of VERY strong prep environments.

He looks for all money to have turned the corner. But, as you rightly point out with McGovern et al, his reputations aren’t built in a preseason.

For what it’s worth, I’ve got White in front of him (different positions aside), by about half a dozen quality games of footy. Including one this year.

Rookie Will White is debuting for Carlton against Collingwood tomorrow night.

The small forward was added to the Blues’ list just 38 days ago.

From South Warrnambool, to Carlton’s VFL and now a debut at the MCG in one of footy’s biggest rivalries

Lifelong Carlton supporter. This is a pretty epic way to debut :smoking:

I hope that Williams is ok and that White is replacing Evans.
I agree that it would be good to see Docherty at half back.
However, I also like playing Hollands at half back. I see Hollands developing kind of like a Kade Simpson.

And I would like to see Moir given a good crack. I accept that he needs to show a bit more in the VFL to earn his elevation but I think he could contribute.
I have no problem with Harry walking back in. I don’t think he has suddenly overcome his demons.
I suspect one of two things happened: Most likely, he watched the last two games and has realised that if he played, we could well have won one of those, or possibly both. OR, Voss pulled him aside and pointed that out.
Maybe he saw Riewoldt (and others) say that they also were uncontrollably nervous and agitated before matches but they went out and played anyway because that was their job and what their standing demanded of them.

Finally, I actually think we are playing better this year than we were at this time last year notwithstanding the results being opposite. I was very uneasy about our unconvincing wins early last season. The last two weeks we have played much better albeit with some glaring errors and lack of skill/composure at critical moments. (We pretty much matched it with the hottest form team with a depleted list and effectively missing both our key forwards.)
Having said that, I am deeply concerned that we couldn’t beat a depleted Bulldogs team even when we play pretty well according to our desired game plan for the most part.

Absolutely rapt for the kid...21yo.
Great story and a die hard Bluebagger.
He's been a stand out. Great shot at goal.
Lets hope nerves are controlled and he backs himself.

Conragts to White.
I hope he comes in with some white line fever.

Some interesting stats on shots on goal:

Quote:
Most accurate
Brodie Kemp - 14 goals from 25 shots (56 per cent)
Charlie Curnow - 284 goals from 508 shots (55.9)
Corey Durdin - 34 goals from 62 shots (54.8)

Least accurate
Adam Saad - 11 goals from 47 shots (23.4)
Nick Haynes - 13 goals from 36 shots (36.1)
Sam Walsh - 43 goals from 115 shots (37.4)

Walsh is very surprising.

I'm more surprised by Saad being there. But then again, Wanganeen-Milera is just as bad which was also a surprise given his kicking skills generally.
I'd be interested to see where Crippa is?
Also, my perhaps biased/traumatised memory is that Judd was very accurate at West Coast but struggled for accuracy at Carlton?

Two experienced players who are well below their best and out of form are Acres and Gov

The elephant in the room for me is Acres imo, moreso than Gov.
His ratings have gone into negative when factoring clangers to efficient disposals.
He has been a huge liability. I'm shocked he's still in the team TBH.

I wonder if he keeps his spot.

The defensive side of his game is still strong. Daylight between him and the other wingers in that respect.

I’d move him out to the fat side wing, where the handovers between Crisp, Sidebottom, Houston, Lipinski & 2x Daicos will come thick & fast.

White you could see having an impact as he seems to have a bit of "I don't know what", compared to others
