We have to stop their playmakers from HB Impey and Amon.

We can't let Impey have open space to run into.

Just hold them. But who?

Kemp takes Weddle. Has to play a negating role to stop his run.
Harry and Charlie vs Barrass and Battle.

Williams has defensive genes, so he can take Amon. Share that with Fantasia
Cottrell has to take Impey. All night.

We can beat these pricks if we choke them.

One on one footy. Plenty of rotations and keep up the intensity.

And don’t leave your man to try to put pressure on the ball carrier if you have no chance of making an impact! Does my head in. Rather make the ball carrier run fast and further and then have to execute whilst moving and tired.
I honestly think it’s less about pace per se and more about effort (not only where the ball is) and decision making!

I know it was only a pracy game but if they approach Hawks as they did GWS that's all we need to do. GWS don't lack speed.

It's easy to over analysie things and focus on opponents rather than do what works for us.

I don't think they're going to go nuts after last week and throw out a whole summer's prep by suddenly throwing the magnets up in the air and seeing where they land.
I really don't expect many changes at all.

Curnow will probably come in. They might pick Fantasia if he's fit. Maybe they select Young if they didn't like the look of Cripps in the ruck.
That's about it.
I don't reckon Haynes will get dropped. You don't recruit a free agent then drop him after one game.

I'm not saying I agree with any of this, but I cannot see them carrying on like some of the posters on this site. For everything that happened, the 23 we sent out last week *was* 47 points up at one stage...

Hope your right Champ . Wouldn't be panicking after one game shit as it was . I agree , Young and Fantasia are the only two possibles for me apart from Charles .

Im telling myself that Haynes will do what Acres did after a terrible debut, have a cracker in his second game (because he owed us as supporters)

Fingers crossed.

So what are people thinking for the changes?

Out: McGovern, Motlop, Evans
In: Charlie, Fantasia, Young

Not sure what Young does when he's not chopping out TDK though, as we probably don't need to be too tall against the Hawks.

Even if we move SOS forward, Weitering and Haynes is probably tall enough?

I would only bring Charlie in this week... I don't like dropping whipping boys for other whipping boys

Need to see how much last week hurt and how they bounce back...

I'm the opposite, I want the coach to make a statement.

But at the end of the day, if we win, I'll be happy. :)

I'll preface this post by saying it won't be popular...

BUT as much as I love Docherty, I don't think he is an "automatic", first 22 selection.

Where needs arise, he could be considered a sub option based on opposition, and injuries etc.

For that reason, not sure he is picked next game.

Showers and thunderstorm forecast for Thursday night.
Not sure if that is a good thing or not.

I just don't get that.
We have genuine half back replacements and he's our only dual sided midfielder. And one of the few who runs hard defensively. I'm keen to support the coaching group but that's just a dumb decision all round IMHO.

It's started already.

As a thought, imagine if we traded in an AA halfback that had speed and sublime delivery skills by foot, we wouldn't be robbing Peter to pay Paul.
Ok, that's the last time.

But seriously, WTF.

Maybe we are putting Ben Campo in the middle and we are going to rotate them.
More midfielders in the side is better, especially against the Dawks.
If this is the case, I don't hate the idea, but I would like to see the rest of the team first.

How do you know this?

In any case, I'd like us to have more mids and fewer small forwards. Williams, Motlop, Fogarty, Evans... is the idea that if you throw enough of them in there they might add up to one decent one? Get more decent ball users into the team, tell them not to all congregate in the F50 and choke the life out of it. Instead, move the ball back and forth, look for angles to open, pull defenders out of formation. Enough bombing to uncompetitive keys and smalls who can't read it or think they should all fly for the same mark.

I see Carroll is a test to play. Sam Docherty won a B&F and was an AA as a half back. He's definitely not setting the world on fire elsewhere. Zac Williams has played a heap of footy in defence.
I'd rather they try a Cottrell or an Evans in defence. Our midfield has enough plodders and average kicks of the footy. Cerra is the one who has class by foot.
