Yep. Confirmed. Sad news for Zac. Once again the club treating its members with utter contempt

Do we ever have any luck with injuries :banghead:

Keeping in mind it’s only early February, we already have five LTIs:
Williams
Walsh
Boyd
Cottrell
Philp

Plus at least three more still in modified programs:
Cunners
Marchbank
Fogarty

Question mark:
Martin (said to have a calf ‘niggle’ - that sounds ominous to me)
Mirkov (read somewhere he was on light duties, not sure what the issue is)

I suggested awhile back that we shouldn’t take for granted we’ll have a better year with injuries in 2023. I’m getting less bullish about our prospects by the week.

It can’t just be bad luck, can it?

I'm with you, getting less bullish about our prospects by the day.
Question now is, how do we cover Zac W?
Does Cowan get an early opportunity as some have floated?
Does Doc have to go back now, Acres play a more inside mid role and Hollands gets an early go on a wing?
Does Doc go back and we tell Dow, this is your big opportunity. You got at least the first month to prove that you're up to the task and really want it?
Does Jack M (assuming he doesn't get injured again) get more mid time and we play all of Motlop, Durdin and Owies forward, with Doc going back? Or even Durdin getting more midfield time?

Thoughts?

Our injury ‘curse’ continues and may get worse. Every injury limits our options and exposes our questionable depth.

I know people haven’t liked me saying this, but our depth (at least in the short term) is not improving in 2023. Setterfield & Stocker could have been used to plug some of those gaps - they will play AFL footy at other clubs this year and we got NOTHING in return for them. Meanwhile, Fogarty & Philp remain listed (and unavailable). Acres covers Newnes and should be an upgrade (to what extent, remains to be seen). It’s not realistic that Hollands, Binns or Cowan will come in and play 18+ games in their first season.

Anyway, I’m tipping that Doc, Weitering, Saad, McGovern, Newman, Plowman/Marchbank & Young/S Durdin will be our back seven group. God help us if Saad or Weitering go down.

The core midfield group will be Cripps, Cerra, Hewitt, Kennedy. Not a lot of depth there again, unless Carroll takes big strides or Dow surprises everyone or E.Curnow turns back the clock. I thought Doc might be a midfield regular in 2023 but I reckon that changes with the Williams injury. I hope Acres is allowed to play the position we recruited him to play (and need him to play) and doesn’t have to provide inside coverage too often.

It's becoming an annual event the Carlton season-ending preseason injury. FMD
