I think we're now at 7/20 quarters won but 4/5 games...

I'll take it.

I thought 33k was a bit of a low crowd but then just heard it was our highest MCG against Port

I reckon whatever Voss is dishing up in his half time rev up speeches may need a bit of looking at….

I watch a lot of footy most weeks and momentum swings are happening in most games.
Very rarely does one team have it on their terms the entire game.
From my observations I think Carltons best is streets ahead of every other team in the comp including Melbourne.
However in a blink of an eye our worst is by far the worst of every team in the comp.

If I was a suspicious man I would say there are a few Pakistani players in the team ringing the book makers at half time.

It's an issue Voss will need to resolve pretty quickly. I would like to think Gov was the answer but he played against doggies.

Need one or two players to sense the mood and just kill the game for 10 or so minutes

Im in between being pleased with 4 and 1 record so far but frustrated with how we have got there. Thinking more broadly, and maybe a little naively, are results like this game and the hawks game mental deficiencies borne out of our history over the past 5 or 10 years? Voss has on exposed form has brought about a better game plan. But lets not forget the many years of poor results and other things which have whether we like it or not, become ingrained into our playing group. This has been and will be a MASSIVE challenge for Voss and co to turn around. IT wont happen overnight. There have been glimpses, but to remove the mediocrity of years of false dawns from the mindset of our team is a MASSIVE change. It will take time, I think the guys are united, and want the success that they can and WILL deliver, but seriously, this is a team which shows so much potential, but its a work in progress. Lets enjoy (hopefully) a solid improved ride which brings about more consistency, but maybe more importantly, burying teams when we get a multiple goal lead against!

Amazing first hafl: 2 x 6 goal quarters.

Surprised how well Newnes and Cottrell went for us today. Not world beaters but marginally better than LOB and Setterfield of late.
The wing is still a problem for us.

Curnow and Harry are A grade footballers. Fire when it counts.
Midfield group damn good...but their run around the ground dropped off badlyWe were 1 down without Crippa. I would expect the 4 would have had higher game time than in previous games. Fisher spent more minutes in the middle today.
Pitto faded in 2nd half. He was still very good though!
I'm not a fan of Jack in the ruck, but geez he's a good, smart footballer.
Some of Martin's disposal was awful. There was some poor disposal from a lot of players, even Walsh!
We can't stop teams with their uncontested game. I think part of this has to do with tiring and we seem to push up the ground very high when the ball is in our forward line. The wingers go into the pockets I think they go too deep and so aren't there to defend when needed. Also Owies and Durdin aren't always at the fall of the ball close to goal. I think they go too far up the ground
Our backline support faded, and looked a mess in the 2nd half...not sure why.
Where's our turnover game? Next year

Bottom 6 players in order:

Owies (2 weeks in a row)
Durdin
Kennedy (2 weeks in a row)
Newman
Martin (yeah I know he kicked 2 goals but typically, faded badly)
Setterfield

Young and weitering had some moments but did some very good stuff over 4 quarters.

We played 2 damn good quarters this wek. That's an improvement.

Next , Freo

I always like your comments BB but not sure I agree with all of this.
I am not sure how you determine the bottom 6; I presume by possession tallies. I thought Setterfield was just as good as Cottrell or Newnes and as a group they were better than Durdin.. I thought they all contributed.

Best description yet and agree.

With macca and Charlie upfront, our midfield .. if it all clicks at once, at the right time for long enough .. wowee

Problem is our worse, is the polar opposite .. it's terrible and probably the worst in the comp.

Our best football is what is getting us the leads, or worst football is what's making the margins so close ..

Our best seems to be coming from centre square ball ups. I think we've really benefited from the 6-6-6 rule, plus Pitto's work with the mids.

Still got plenty to work on around the ground in general play though

This team will be the death of me.
It is not often you go home after a win feeling angry.
Having said that if anyone had said we would be 4-1 after 5 rounds you would take it every day.

All the hard talking needs to be done behind closed doors, not at a press conference. The days of ranting and raving coaches are long gone. All that achieves in the long term is players walking out the door. I think Voss has been very good at the pressers.

I think its already been presented somewhere on this site. Under Teague we won more quarters but lost the games! Go figure?

Best game of the year so far for Fish and Martin. I hope its the first small steps to being more regular contributors.

Teams will always come out firing if they've been shown up. We need to be better at matching that intensity and failing that we need to be more composed and not fall to pieces so quick. Our lead evaporated so quickly in the third. We need to be better at managing the difficult times and then regaining control. A lot of this will come by training more to stop the transition. But equally we need to get tougher mentally and it might be a few players just aren't cut out for it when things get tough.
