We should win this which means we probably won't :smoking:

I think the two things that concern me is:
1. They can hit targets and apply pressure.
2. They can play like this for 4 quarters.
If they conceed the clearances 55 to 35
And the inside 50 58 to 46 against us we will smash them

Hopefully, but we will still need to be able to play for 4 quarters, something we have been unable to do for a few years.
Maybe this could be the game that changes that out of necessity.
Fingers crossed.

27 years

Sad but true.

Play with the same brand of the past two weeks (tough, uncompromising, strong midfield performance and pressure all over the ground) and we should get the job done.
Mitchell being clever trying to pump us up to put all the pressure and expectation on us in the hope that we fold underneath it.
Looking for another big performance from our mids especially with Cerra presumably back.

Hawks have been better than most predicted so far but, on talent we are the superior team... we will decide who wins this game as it will be played above the shoulders. Getting ahead of ourselves has been a big problem for us in the past and will be a huge test of our maturity.

Blues by 33pts

I had formative memories of our Premiership Quarter driven victories over the Hawks in the (early?) 80s.
I want that for my 7yr old son... who I'm taking on Sunday.

In the last 20 years, our record against this mob has been terrible.

They have won 22 out of the last 26 games against us. That has included some real beltings along the way - twice in that period they beat us by over 100 points and six other times by 50 points or more.

A strong win against Hawthorn this week would be another mini milestone to tick off as this group strives to write its own history.

The teams we MUST win against every year, for mine, are Effendrugdon, Tigers, Pies, Hawks and Cats, in that order.

Going to watch this game with Hawks supporters.
I've been told we have a chance with Fev not playing :fight:
Memories, scars, have to been the poo and wees.

Come on Blues.

Pittonet-DeKoning vs Reeves-McEvoy

I can't see our midfield group lowering their colours to Hawks.

I expect the forward pressure on their backmen to be suffocating.
Port were crap at forward pressure.

We need to wipe the arrogant shit eating grin off Sam Mitchell’s face.

McDonald is confirmed out this week, so I imagine Lewis Young will debut.

That makes things interesting.

Weitering to take on FF, Lewis: most likely.

McEvoy plays CHF ... Plowman (no, too small), McGovern (no, too small)...therefore Young it is.
McEvoy will be too strong for Young in one on ones, but we have no other realistic choice imo. Kemp isn't ready.

McGovern will need to tighten up on Gunston, who seems to be in good form.

Frost will take Harry McKay
Sicily will take Charlie Curnow
Grainger-Barass to take Silvagni/ DeKoning

Martin has an important role to run Jaith around and away from going 3rd man up.

I'd pick Plowman ahead of Newman as the 7th Defender.... whilst Stocker finds his feet in the VFL.

i would rather anyone than Plowman. He is old Carlton, and when he can on in the Footscray game, nothing has changed.

Rather anyone, Newman, Parks, even an underdone Stocker........

Plowman coming on gave me the chills. 'here we go' and nothing has changed my mind.

I've always been a fan of his. But the contrast in intent/urgency between him and the rest of our team when he came on really stood out to me. I haven't watched it back though so it might have just been a false impression.
